Retail billionaire Sir Philip Green has been named in Parliament as the businessman accused of sexual harassment.
Lord Peter Hain, who identified him in the Lords, said it was his duty to name him given the "serious and repeated" nature of the allegations. On Tuesday the Telegraph ran an article accusing an unnamed businessman of racial and sexual abuse of staff. A legal injunction prevented the Telegraph from publishing his identity. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-45981436 |

I mean, I think there should be an automatic embargo on reporting accusations against public figures until they are found guilty.
That said, nothing would surprise me about Green... |

Philip Green is an odious man and it wouldn't surprise me one bit if the allegations were all true. His involvement with BHS was shameful... All that said, I am completely against an unelected pier of the realm using Parliamentary Privilege to break an injunction made by three of the country's senior judges. Especially bearing in mind Lord Hain "advises" the law firm working for the Daily Telegraph, who are currently champing at the bit to publish all the allegations against Philip Green. Depending on whether you believe Lord Hain when he says he wasn't aware of the law firm's involvement with the Telegraph, it's either a case of a conflict of interest or the most staggering incompetence.
I don't believe super injunctions are a good thing. They allow rich people a level of justice ordinary people can't afford. That said, once a legal judgement is made, no one should be allowed to ride roughshod over it, I don't care who they are. Last edited by Livia; 28-10-2018 at 01:24 PM. |

i don't think there is an issue with injunctions per se ... i do think there is an issue when they are used to silence/hide criminal behaviour. That's what needs to be sorted out.
