Did you watch the video where his former boss was describing his prior behavior? It's amazing how behavior like that can fly underneath the radar for so long...
I think this inclination to blame whole swaths of people, politics for the activities of bad actors isn't really productive. Realistically though, what can people really do
but practice word of mouth? It's not like all terrorists are associated with entire groups and thus their actions chronicaled... most of the domestic terrorists in the US are solitary indivduals who keep their private lives pretty well-insulated from their public lives. In some cases, a complete Jeckyl & Hyde situation. We still don't even know the motive of the Vegas shooter. In fact, pretty often there never seem to be any good take-aways from these events... except keep your eyes open and be vigilant?
There was the lady who prevented a school shooting, but she had no idea as she had reported him for something related to a death threat... I don't know if it was posted in SD.

A New Jersey woman who reported racist, threatening messages sent to her on Facebook from a man in Kentucky may have thwarted a school shooting when she reported the posts to authorities in both states, according to officials.
Kentucky State Police received a complaint from the woman on Wednesday, stating that the man -- who resides in Anderson County -- was harassing her on social media, Sgt. Josh Lawson of the Kentucky State Police public affairs division said in a press conference last week.
In one of the messages, the suspect, 21-year-old Dylan Jarrell, allegedly called the woman a "wanna be black woman" and told her he hopes her "black children get hung for you being so stupid," Koeberle Bull, the woman who reported Jarrell to authorities, told The Washington Post.
