The dog you chow down on at the Chinese buffet suffers more but that doesn't stop you!

To be fair most of the snakes seemed very chilled it was just the two hatchlings at the very start that were a tad defensive , both in the S shape and wildly striking out like many hatchlings do whilst they're so small and vulnerable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

You know my methods
|
the snakes are abused and vilified
it makes people hate snakes and it makes people kill snakes (like adders and grass snakes) I am astounded in 2018 we are still allowing this abuse like last night for out titillation |

Agree, I don't mind the swimming ones where the animals are just swimming around minding their own business but bothering tiny snakes just for TV viewing, I can't believe they are getting away with it in 2018, that said they are clever in that they use all animals who have a bad press anyway, spiders, ants, rats, and snakes, would they drop a cute baby rabbit from a great height...no

I do think it's a bit needless and also, there's an obvious difference between being OK with some animal suffering for food and being ok with it for pure entertainment. The latter is totally unnatural. Well, a bit unnatural anyway. Cats kill for fun / sport but arguably it's also "practice" for required food hunting. The only animals that have been observed killing PURELY for entertainment are humans and dolphins.
That said I mind less when it's bugs and reptiles as they don't actually have the same sort of emotional response that we imagine they do... they're instinct driven and don't feel "fear" the way we understand it. It does bother me when it's rats though. Rats are as intelligent and affectionate as dogs, and definitely DO feel emotionally upset and scared. |
