Default Carrying a knife

Knife crime is off the charts at the moment in this country.

I think if you are caught carrying a knife The law should be changed so those caught should be put in prison, detention centre without a trial.

There is no reasonable excuse to carry a knife in public.

What do you lot think?
What would you like to see happen.

Should we have metal detectors in public places?
Train stations tube stations, shopping centres?

metal detectors can be annoying for those who have metal plates in their head, i've read something about that

a guy here who gets headaches cause of his metal plate in his head whenever he gets through metal detector at customs

but yeah knife crime has been quite a lot recently, and we do need to do something about this

I have a metal plate in my elbow (smashed her to bits in 2014) and it always goes off at metal detectors. Yes it’s annoying but I’d much rather give away a few seconds of my life to be searched than potentially be knifed somewhere.

Why is your society so broken that people can't be trusted with something as commonplace as a knife? Banning all objects which could conceivably be used as weapons doesn't address the question of why so many people are apparently walking around in a homicidal rage, or simply don't place any value on human life.

It's not really feasible because of the number of legitimate metal objects people carry; coats, bags, laptops, literally hundreds of things you might buy in a shop and have in a bag (pots and pans, a kettle... Etc etc the list is endless).

It works at airports because there's time to process everyone, you put your metal stuff in the little tray and collect it on the other side, or store it in your suitcase. But can you imagine trying to run a system like that on the London underground? Or any city's major train station during commuter hours? There would be queues half way across the city. You'd have to leave for work at 3am

It could work if there were random arc searches like they do at Colleges, carrying a knife should have a mandatory prison term, it’s no different to carrying a gun, obviously a distinction would need to be made between someone who just bought a knife in Debenhams and its packaged and they have a receipt and someone who has a breadknife in their jacket pocket
