Default AsdaWalmart to remove single kitchen knives from sale by end of April

[Asda has announced it will remove
single kitchen knives from sale
by the end of April in response to
concerns about knife crime.
The supermarket chain confirmed
the items would be removed from
all stores following increased concerns
about knife-related deaths across the UK.
Asda's senior vice president, Nick Jones,
said he believed the store
had a "responsibility" to local communities.]

All Supermarkets
have been caught on undercover TV reports
selling Knives to underage set ups.

Incredible! I am aged checked every time I buy a bottle of wine

Surely a young person buying a knife should raise a red flag

If they went to pay for it ! but so easy to hide if you want to pinch it, but every household has knives so I don't think Asda's idea will help stop knife crime

The TV reporters
send in a mature young girl
all the stores do not ask her age,
its a busy store etc.

Staff have failed, to many times

It says they were sold? so not nicked, no it wont stop knife crime, but we have to start somewhere and just adding an electronic tag to knives will stop theft from shops, online is another issue but like restricting the sale of acid it's a start

Nice gesture. Can't see it being very effective, but I guess every little helps.

It's a step in the right direction.

I'd also ramp up the prices of knife sets/bundles OR have them treated in the same way as cigarettes now, in a locked case behind a counter and make ID compulsory.

I'm sure people wouldn't mind paying more or the faff of buying knives when it's to try and stop something so terrible like this.

This is so stupid. Gangs have multiple members. Are they going to get a special deal for their multiple knife purchase?

Glasgow used to have the highest knife crime in Europe, and they pretty much sorted the problem out. It requires police to search people to see if they are carrying weapons, but of course the Dianne Abbots of this world would be outraged by that prospect.

That's right, because a few tw@s can't behave themselves, everyone has to suffer.

I feel bad for looking at this from a “glass half empty” view, as all they’d have to do is walk to tesco around the corner or any other high street shop that sells kitchen knives

A noble move but I'm not sure how effective it could be.

We don't sell single knives at our place but people just steal the cutlery sets instead or they'll break open the packs just to get at the knives. I get called down from the office regularly to log stolen knives. I know about four police officers on a first name basis because of it.

It's a pandemic and one that is not easily solved.
