After so many years of waiting, one more month won't make a difference to me.

Does anyone have any idea when they will release the second part?

Apparently they've already made significant progress on the 2nd part too, so I don't think its gonna be a case of a few years, that said, part 1 is a full game

I'm of the opinion that the past 6-7 years (if you factor in the time spent before the game's reveal in 2015) has been spent developing more than just Part 1 (the development team changed but they didn't throw out the work that cyberconnect did), My guess is that they've used the time to stagger the development in such a way that they've made enough progress on the future parts to release them yearly.

Three instalments, all wrapped up by 2022 is my bet.

I can see that being the case, I don't forsee us waiting too long for each part. Once all of them are out they will probably have XVI soon after

Yeah, there's a lot of fans that think the VII series will be going on for a decade but that's just not financially viable, I think.

Plus we're coming up to the time where XVI is due and it's a known thing that SE doesn't like overlapping projects (Versus was put on the backburner for XIII's sequels, KH3 had to wait it's turn while XV had it's DLC run and VIIR had to wait for KH3). Wrapping up the remakes by 2022 and having XVI out in 2023 seems likely to me.

Yep, I think they're wanting to move in the direction of having their bigger games closer together

Why are they splitting it into 3 parts anyway?

The reasoning they've used is that the scope of the game with today's technology would be too big for one game.

Not sure how true that is but that's the reasoning they've used.

I mean it's nonsense as there are modern RPG's with as big (and bigger) scope than the original FF7 in terms of everything I can think of - Length of story, amount of dialogue, number of locations, number and variety of enemies...

That said so long as the content being used to fill out 3 games is new, meaningful and ... good ... not just obvious filler, then I'm happy enough with them stretching it out over a bigger scale. Even if it is to make three AAA games worth of profits with the same engine and assets .

The game is apparently two discs long, so I don't think it will be short on content

To be fair though I'm expecting the final result to showcase the absolute peak of PS4 capabilities... so the game assets are likely to be big.

The game did look very nice, but I'm not sure if its pushing any graphical boundaries, I think RDR2 is still pushing the envelope in that regard. They are also using CG cutscenes it seems (which I'm happy about for nostalgia's sake )

True, I think the tech was already at capacity with things like RDR2 and Death Stranding. No matter one's stance on Death Stranding as a game, it being on the bleeding-edge for consoles is undeniable. It's probably the first game where it hasn't just been a case of "wow, that really does look so much like [actor]" ... it just IS Norman Reedus. And things like terrain and weather effects are IMO currently unparalleled.

I wonder how much HD space FFVII is going to need? I rarely buy physical copies but I know RDR2 was 2-disc and the digital download for that was gargantuan. I think it was something like 150gb+ when installed

I think the Remake has been confirmed to be around 100gb in size

Just played through the demo. MORE NOW PLZ.

Have they finally nailed the combination of active combat with a menu abilities system & party-based system where everyone's abilities, and actual tactics, matter? I was skeptical that they'd ever do it but it works .

I was so worried the combat was gonna be like XV, but I'm really impressed

I think they've clearly learned a LOT from XV but have finally refined it into something that combines it with classic FF menu-based combat in a way that works. They were trying hard in XV, and it improved significantly from launch with various updates, but they never quite got there.

It also means things are looking very positive for main series entries going forward. An FF renaissance?

I will shamefully admit that the Guard Scorpion even killed me on my first try . I was assuming you could just hack at it and it would eventually go down; turns out you run out of healing LONG before it's dead if you don't use tactics .

To be fair, XIV has been a shining beacon for the main series for years, especially now with Shadowbringers.

I think with XV and KH3, the last of the mess from the Wada years at Square ended
