N-word was slip of the tongue
Quote:
N-word was slip of the tongue BANISHED Big Brother housemate Emily Parr emerged from hiding last night following the storm over her racist comment — and sobbed: “I’m so sorry.”
Emily, 19, was sensationally thrown off the Channel 4 show after calling 21-year-old Charley Uchea “n*****”.
She was smuggled out in the dead of the night by producers on Thursday — but the blonde finally broke her silence on Big Brother’s Little Brother yesterday.
As the cameras focused in on her, Emily lowered her head and started to cry.
She told host Dermot O’Leary, 33: “It was a slip of the mouth, a stupid mistake. I am devastated and ashamed. I said something awful and I’m so sorry.
“I used a word that caused offence to Charley. We’re on the same level, she understands.
“She’s a great friend for the way she took it.”
Clearly struggling, Emily said: “I didn’t mean anything by it, I’m sure everyone knows that.”
But when Dermot said she could not be excused for using the N-word, Emily confessed: “I was completely wrong, there’s no denying that. It was wrong and I can’t take it back.”
Asked if Big Brother bosses were right to kick her out, Emily said: “I broke a fundamental rule. I agree with them taking me out of the show, but I’m glad they aired everything as it was. People need to see the context it was said in.”

She added: “I’ve got plenty of friends from different backgrounds, I’m a liberal girl. I’m not a racist. Charley is a great person — as are all my black friends.”
However, Emily insisted the word n***** “gets chucked back and forth in everyday life”. But when pulled up by Dermot, she then said: “This is not an excuse, this is an explanation.
“I’m very much aware there are people all over the country who have taken offence.”
But Channel 4 revealed it had received 922 complaints about the infamous episode — all declaring that Emily should NOT have been kicked out. The evening highlights show was seen by an average 4.6 million viewers.
