Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez recently described the Migrant detention centers as concentration camps and when you watch interviews like that (Also this BBC article comes with a clip from another inspector interviewed about condition,
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RJVqs_mhOA4&t=204s) it's difficult to deny that she's right.
Malnourished children that aren't being taken care of, that aren't being provided with soap or anything to help their hygiene and that are expected to take care of younger children instead of being cared for by adults. Sick children are placed in isolation with little to no supervision and the laws that prevent the border services from releasing these children into the custody of their parents or guardians is not being followed either. By all accounts these camps are disregarding the Flores Agreement completely.
There's also the aspect that a lot of children are being purposely mislabeled as unaccompanied by the border services when they crossed with their parents, a year on from when the story first exploded and families are still being split up en mass. It's gross negligence, it's incredibly inhumane and it's hard to believe that this is happening to potentially thousands of children in captivity in these camps.
The current administration has bought shame onto the US and it's so grim to see relatively recent mistakes repeated on mass. Considering the US's crimes against Japanese/American people during and after WW2, this story sends a bitter message that, ultimately, history will inevitably repeat itself.
