Probably, but by the time they print his notes they'll be like "Oh ffs, reset the printers for William..."

My gran had a massive jar of 1/2 penny coins that she'd been saving up for decades, went right back to WW2 era. I used to play with them as a kid because by that time they were worthless .
Although they seem to sell for 50p - £1 each on eBay now ... there were hundreds if not thousands of them in that jar! God knows what happened to it. Last edited by Toy Soldier; 25-03-2021 at 10:20 AM. |

we did indeed, the shilling was just equivalent to 5 pence and the same applied for all the other coins too. As I recall, nobody wanted the half penny even when it was first introduced, the old penny was much more substantial

I remember the half-pence. It was about the size of the 5 pence now.

…good choice…….I very rarely see cash notes anymore …since COVID times, many prefer card only payments and I shop mostly online anyway so cash feels a bit of a thing of past gone days….I’m emptying a money box thing for parking change atm but once that’s all gone, I’ll need to get more parking coins ….

I think I've only ever seen a £50 once properly up close, and weirdly it was some people trying to pay with them in a pound shop of all places . The retail worker called it "monopoly money" . I think they got worried it could be counterfeit.

Is it mentioned when the older £50 will be phased out?

Yes Only use in Big Stores are banks or contracts. The Old £50 note must be changed by October 2022 after that, no longer legal, If you have one after that, try to change it in your bank only. Last edited by arista; 23-06-2021 at 11:36 AM. |

I've never owned a £50 note lol . But anyway it's good to see Alan Turing get this bit of recognition.

£50’s we’re always a pain, some places didn’t accept them (which I don’t blame since from my experience working in retail, it was always common to come across fake £50’s than any other note) and you couldn’t use them at some self service machines.
