To be fair the Tories are the ruling party, there's not a great deal of point in having Parliament open when they're not even there.

Considering the Party conferences usually start on a Saturday or Sunday now.
Rather than through a whole week like they used to.

I don't see why Parliament needs to not be sitting during Party conferences now, having just got back a few weeks from the Summer recess.

No they are not they lost their majority, and with or without them there's plenty to discuss.

Plenty of reasons.
Perfect time for opposition to seize the agenda

[The Conservatives head to Manchester for an unconventional party conference.
After opposition MPs vetoed plans for a conference recess,
the Tories will meet while parliament sits.
No 10 is bullish that it will not let opposition MPs ruin its moment.
Expect cars and helicopters on standby to ferry politicians at the last minute if a surprise vote is called.
With a working majority in the region of -40, Conservative MPs are fairly sanguine about the practicalities.
‘Frankly, it doesn’t matter if we are in London or Manchester. We can’t win votes even
if we are all in Westminster,’ says one cabinet minister. Ministers and MPs
are determined to use the conference to set out their agenda ahead of an
early election that they still expect to take place this year.]

Of course the opposition is there moaning about it, but anything to ease the suffering of animals is ok by me.

I agree. These proposals should be welcomed regardless of anything. A step in the right direction

The animal treatment is welcome.
Long overdue from any government and even as to other Countries.

I will be watching the conference.
Although even in my teens, when I leaned to the Cons.

This conference I found tedious of all the Parties.

The Lib Dems had moments.
Labour's was always more eventful.
The Cons more like a robotic stage show.

Who knows, Johnson may shine however as a funfair sideshow act.
Unless he uses the intelligence he has to finally just try to even look and sound, like a National and International Statesman.

Personally with all the conferences.
I'd rather they were held privately and the Parties then hold other conferences, where any voters or non voters attended, to challenge those making speeches.

Now that could be really interesting.

Well with no hesitation from me, there's nothing I'd like to be going the way of the USA.

i don't know how any party can promise anything regarding increased public spending when we have no idea if or how it could be funded after brexit
