I mean ours is (literally) 30+ years old and the landlord won't replace it but, to be fair, we've been here 6 years and haven't had a problem with it yet. Other than it having an efficiency rating of "H". "H" for "Hahaha I'm using tonnes of gas".

Our heating just before winter last year, the landlords ignored us until, like, march, and then said because we were out of the colder months we have to wait until next winter to get it fixed because its no longer a priority

Mine has been on a bit over the last few weeks.
Pumping away lovely at the minute.
But you can guarantee if it’s going to go doff then now is the time it will.

We've had it on a couple of times but our house is really temperamental with ... temperature. It can feel cold and then after the heating has been on for half an hour, downstairs is fine but upstairs in horrendous, like an oven. It seems to all work out fine when it's "actually cold" like < 7 degrees or thereabouts, and we never need heating at all over summer, but in the "a bit cold but not that cold" phases in Autumn and Spring it's a constant battle

If you have a kid under 5 here you can get a free boiler I think if yours is 30yrs old then I'd enquire... Are your bills in with your rent hope so, has your landlord provided a carbon monoxide detector?
My boiler is in a locked shed, and I haven't seen the key for months :/

My kids are 10 and 7 now Kizzy - clearly I've been on TiBB too long because I do remember being on here with little kids .

Bills aren't in with rent but (somewhat unfathomably) our gas bill actually isn't huge... our electricity is 3x what we pay for gas . We do have CO detector and (too many) smoke & heat detectors, one in every room downstairs and another in the upstairs hall all interconnected. I believe it's a legal requirement for rentals in Scotland these days.

The landlord isn't interested in repairing anything, we (literally) never see them and I'm not keen to start pushing because, as the other effect of him not giving a **** about the property, our rent hasn't gone up in 7 years and is currently nearly £150 under the local average. If he starts fixing stuff then I'm fairly sure he'll up the rent and we only plan to be here for another year at most .

But yeah there's a LIST of issues in this dump.

- Ancient boiler,

- we had squirrels in the attic which we did tell landlord about, pest control found asbestos which has been deemed safe if not disturbed, so instead of removal, we now just have no access to the attic. Squirrels are gone though. Poor buggers probably had asbestosis anyway!

- Kitchen ceiling is bowed down in the middle because a few years ago, the toilet cistern broke and overflowed and flooded the bathroom. He did send a plumber to fix the toilet - he did NOT send anyone to look at the ceiling.

- Part of the outside windowsill completely crumbled. He sent a joiner to look, turns out it's still perfectly weatherproof and "just aesthetic". Therefore, it did not get fixed...

rant rant rant. There's more

Do you have a gas inspection the landlord should pay for it the gas safety person might say you need new ones
