Default Farage calls for violence against civil service

Police are looking into remarks made by Nigel Farage at a rally in which he told the crowd: “Once Brexit is done, we will take the knife to the pen-pushers in Whitehall.”

Gwent police said they were investigating the comments made by the Brexit party leader during the event at the Neon in Newport last weekend.

The comments, made to an audience of about 500 people, were reported to the force by several people on Twitter.

In response, Gwent police said: “Thank you for your message. We have been made aware of comments made last night in Newport and we are looking into these allegations. Thanks.”

The Alliance party MEP, Naomi Long, had asked police on Twitter if they would be investigating “this clear case of incitement to violence against staff in the civil service”.

Cue the Nigel supporters making out that it's a joke who would be up in arms about the same comment if it was made by someone they dislike.

It's a dumb statement and one he's purposefully chose to word that way. He's fully on board with making out people who oppose him as 'traitors' and 'enemies'.

We are heading towards another Jo Cox situation and it'll be statements like these that fan the flames for extremists.

I mean... it's fairly obvious that he's speaking metaphorically and means "cutting the strings". Then again, he's speaking to an audience that probably doesn't know what a metaphor is so it will certainly have been TAKEN by some of them as an incitement to literal violence.

Pretending that it was a literal statement is a bit disingenuous though.

See, i don't think anyone should use language like that, and that includes Jess Phillips. However, the only people that it would incite to do something would be those that are already violent within the community. It doesn't make me think, oh i will need to go out and knife someone today.

True, you can't (easily) turn a non-violent individual to violence with a few words, it takes years of indoctrination. But you can trigger an individual already predisposed to violence to take action, or direct their violence in a specific direction, so public figures do need to be careful.

And to be honest, I suspect that some individuals ARE starting to "fall to the extremes" regarding Brexit. It *has* been a constant drip feed for years at this point, and I wouldn't be surprised at all if there are people out there now willing to commit violent acts who wouldn't have dreamt of it 3 years ago.

The problem is that those violent people are becoming more empowered by the day by people like Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and the orange toad across the pond. It's no coincidence that Right Wing Terrorism is rapidly becoming the most frequent form of terrorism in the west when our leaders are engaging in this sort of behaviour.

People aren't becoming more violent, it's just that the already violent people are becoming emboldened.

They are being empowered by everyone in the HoC, who have been playing games for the last 3 years. To single out individuls is wrong in my opinion when the whole rabble have been at it constantly for 3 years.

People are not motivated by language alone, they are motivated by blatant displays of aggression and there has been plenty of that on display in the HoC.

People say MP's have never been in such danger before, but neither have we had a HoC that have been constantly at each others throats for years either.

The whole sorry debacle has no place in a civilised society.

Let's face it they've always been playing games. They're just increasingly juvenile games.

I think MP's should write their speeches before hand and then have the transcripts read out by civil servants. Take all the emotion out of them, and see who then gives a **** what is said in the HoC

That's a centrist take on it and like all centrist takes, it's in favour of one side more than the other because, instead of criticising the right for constantly engaging in antics that empower extremists, you're making out that taking a stand against that sort of thing is also a contributing factor. You're basically saying that opposition has a large part in creating extremists which in essence is suggesting that no one can oppose anything because rampant false equivalency means that taking a stance against Boris' words, for example, is just as bad as Boris saying those things. Whether that's your intent or not, you're basically pulling for Boris' opposition to stop opposing him.

Centrism is a noble political leaning in theory but in practice it's just endless false equivalency and rather pointless exclamations that 'everyone is as bad as each other' when it's simply not the case.
