Yeah Triss could be okay she hasn’t done enough to judge yet.

It might be because Fringella has often been in scenes with Tsinna and Yennefer who just outshine her which is not supposed to be evident.

I’m personally glad they had Ciri in this season as it was just building things up for season 2, her scenes with her grandmother were very much needed for a backstory at the beginning of the show rather than being introduced in season 2 imo. It made me understand the war and the dynamics

I think with Fringella, that was intentional, she was meant to be overshadowed and underestimated in the past so that her transformation in the present is more striking.

I think you could have done the Centra/Cintra (sp?) stuff without the present day aspects as I think that storyline was at it's best when we saw the queen and co interact with Geralt in the past. I'd rather they set up the importance of that episode and the idea of destiny and saved Ciri for next season when they could have paced her story better and given her the time she needed.

I love that you can tell how much fun Cavill is having with this, especially combat scenes . Like he's living out his best cosplay fantasy.

I can see the timelines being confusing for people that don't know the games (or books, but let's face it more people know the story from the games!). It's clear that they're different times if you do, because Yennifer is much older than Geralt and they've known each other for decades by the time Geralt meets Dandelion (Jaskier) and I believe he's known Jaskier for many years before Ciri is around.

I was able to work out the timelines from name drops of the city that fell and other references and I'd never played the games. Absolutely loved the series, one of the best Netflix Originals yet.

I think games have been done dirty over the years, they've mainly been adapted into films, where you have to condense so much of what makes it good into a two hour period, TV is a much better medium for games IMO

I watched ep 1 the other day and i was so confused

I didn’t know anyone from the game besides geralt and ciri (i’m assuming ciri was the gal who escaped from the castle)

Who was the butch who the wizard got geralt to kill?

HOW have you never played Witcher 3??

Witcher 2 is a great game too. The difficulty scale is a bit off (it's VERY hard for the first few hours and gets increasingly easy as you skill up) but the storyline is great; much smaller scale than 3 (it's not open world) but that's not necessarily a bad thing IMO, tonnes of character and "big set pieces".

Witcher 1 is pretty dated to the point of not being all that playable at this point but meh... you get more than enough background from the TV show to jump in at 2 (or even 3, though I do recommend 2 anyway).

I've had it for a while but never got around to playing

For anyone struggling to understand the timeline, Netflix has done an official timeline/map

Hmmmm I'm pretty sure in the lore Yennifer is older than Geralt. I don't think their exact ages are ever really given bu I'm sure Geralt is "nearly 100" while Yen is "over 100".

Ciri and Yennefer castings I thought we’re good, although perhaps Ciri should have been a year or two younger considering she’ll be an adult by season 3. Dandelion casting was perfect also.

Fringella was never black? And the actress was terrible.

Likewise Triss is a favourite and is known for her red hair - is it really that difficult to dye her hair?
I wish that the only problem with Triss was the change of her look.

I agree with you for the most part on the other characters, Ciri's performance did grow on me (even if the writers didn't do the best job with her character) and Dandelion, Geralt, and Yennefer steal the season for me (like I think they're intended to tbf) I still have Toss A Coin To Your Witcher ringing in my head.

Oh and the actress who plays Yennefer is from Wolverhampton so on a personal level it's good to see someone from the Midlands doing well for themselves.

I always felt that the point of Triss was that she was supposed to seem quite young / playful / lighthearted in contrast to Yennifer (who has a more stoic/powerful character) and I don't feel like we saw any of that, but then, there was hardly any Triss at all in this and I'm basing my perception of her on the games, which are set after the books so 10+ years after the events we've just seen in the show (e.g. Ciri is in her early 20's).

Of course, there was the slightly problematic fact that (Witcher 2 spoilers)

Spoiler:

Triss was essentially date-raping Geralt for the first half of TW2! bit of a darker side to her there.

For those who haven't played it; Geralt has memory loss at the start of the game, he knows who he is etc. but he doesn't remember Yennifer or their relationship... he's travelling with - and in a sexual relationship with - Triss... who of course DOES know everything, but doesn't tell him about Yenn and tells him he's with her and carries on lying about it because she doesn't want their relationship to end. He's understandably not too pleased when he eventually remembers
