Default Are you gonna boycott shops on Boxing Day?

Back in the early 'ber months I saw a few petitions etc that shops shouldn't be open on Boxing Day, so retail workers can spend the time with their families etc. Now I will admit I've been guilty of shopping on that day (can't resist those sick threads in the Next sale!) but I'm gonna vote with my wallet and hope to be a small part of helping them enjoy their Christmas

Maybe they'd rather work at Christmas? Maybe they love the extra pay? Maybe they joined retail fully aware that it means working during these times.

What a silly petition.

My sister worked for BHS for 20 years. She didn't mind working up to (and including) Christmas Eve, and then again on the 27th, but it got to a point when they would open on Boxing Day and that was when she started to hate it. She genuinely thought (and still thinks) they'll come a time when shops will be open on Christmas Day and I agree.

Before I quit my job in retail we had people complaining we were closed on christmas day. Literally makes me despair, can you not go one bloody day without something you most likely dont need?

But considering they’re already working on Boxing Day and that’s not gonna change in the next 6 days, to boycott the shops and make them work for no reason over the holiday period is a bit more unfair on the worker and not the corporation don’t you think?

I mean sure if you don’t need to go out then don’t, but I wouldn’t just decide not to go out altogether just to prove a point about working over Christmas period.

I avoid shopping in person all together at Christmas time if I can anyway, but if people want to earn the extra money, let them Christ alive

Yeah I take your point, but I love the thought of the greedy Big Business spending more money on running the shop for a day and paying staff (hopefully double time!) than they make. Nice little spit in the eye for them tbh.

Please don't take the Lord's name in vain at this time of year

Again I take your point but don't a lot of shops make it compulsory for all their staff to be in on certain days?

I didn’t mention Scott Disick?

From knowing people who work in retail, I think schedules are more lax at this time of year, they’re more likely to ask who wants what and who can do what

I'd never shop on Boxing Day, I don't care how low the prices are, lol

Personally though, I'm pretty much working throughout these next two weeks including Christmas Day and New Years Eve

And if everyone says they don't want to work...what happens then...perhaps some are forced to come in.

I can't see shop schedules being more lax over Christmas, when Christmas is like their most busy period, it's more likely boxing day is all hands on deck.

It's shift patterns. Staff are allowed to work out what they work between them.

I never go shopping on Boxing Day, it's utterly hellish and plus the sales are never as good as the January sales. I tend to spend any Christmas/Birthday money I get around the 4/5th January if I plan to spend any at shops and not just order online.

I don’t really go shopping on Boxing Day, It just always seems a bit to chaotic so I’d much rather be at home on that day and just wait for January sales.

I actually work in retail. If Boxing Day fell on one of my contracted days (which this year it doesn’t ) to be in, it doesn’t really bother me too much if I have to work it. If they offered it to me as overtime however, I would refuse it, especially this year as I’m already working Christmas Eve, New Years Eve and New Years Day .

It's not so bad for part time workers or students but for anyone who works full time in retail or in a management position then they're probably exhausted by close on Christmas eve and it's pretty ****ty to be straight back in on boxing day
