Do you struggle with them? Do you find them hard to watch. Do you find them difficult to relate to?

Before the days of Sky and the Internet, we were a lot more exposed to them, growing up, than the young ones of today.
I do wonder if many of today's younger generations, go seeking them out much, or prefer to just stick in the modern times that they're used to and know. |

Why So Serious?

The only black and white film I watched was Tarantula.
Despite my fear of spiders, I enjoyed it. |

I like Rebecca. I struggled with The Haunting, it was a bit slow, but I might give it another chance sometime, sometimes you're just not in the right mood. Never seen Hush. Hush sweet Charlotte.

It’s these subtleties that I think some of the younger generation seem to miss and maybe don’t understand. I think as well that some don’t really watch a film from an ‘art’ perspective especially since CGI and stuff is so popular, the art of storytelling is kinda pushed back a bit (I feel anyways).

There only one film I remember (vividly) and that was ‘An Inspector Calls’ from 1954 which we had to study in school.

If I had to recommend a film to a newcomer who wants to explore older movies, (I'm talking old Hollywood, before The American New wave, which began in the mid to late sixties) Then I think a good film to start with is 12 Angry Men. It's a great film and it's an easy watch. It was the film that started me getting into older movies, about 10-15 years ago.

No struggles. Not hard. Not hard to relate usually.

It helps though if they've been remastered.

I love 'em. Billy Wilder is one of my fave directors. Check out all his films from Sunset Boulevard, Ace in the hole, Some like it hot and The Apartment

I recommend the film "The Heiress" for you, starring the fantastic Olivia de Havilland. A tour de force of a performance by her and a pretty tidy film.
