Nope, i wouldn't, even if i were younger. I commend efforts to get a vaccine ready as soon as possible, but things are being rushed and that brings with it much greater risk

No, I can't stand getting a cold at the best of times, kudos to those that do it though even if it is for cold hard cash and not in the interest of science.

there is no benefit in getting paid 5k or whatever if you are not around to spend it. It is important that it gets tested obviously, but given the speed these vaccines have come to trial, they will only take on people in peak health and fitness in the early stages of testing

Medical testing in general is such a huge moral grey area. It tends to be undertaken by single people with few attachments who are in need of the money because it pays so well, but it comes with massive risks of life-long side effects. On the other hand, if no one did it, we wouldn't have even a fraction of the medical advances we have today.

I guess it's an easier choice when it's something like an experimental cancer treatment, or another chronic condition, and you already have that condition. Sort of like a "Well I might as well give it a shot!" ... but something like a vaccine, the whole point is that it has to be tested on healthy adults, which makes it a bit of a Russian Roulette. On top of that they (for obvious reasons) are rushing these vaccines to the human testing phase MUCH faster than they usually would, skipping or accelerating a lot of the "pre-testing" stuff, which makes it even riskier.

test it on older people, who this virus is fatal to anyway, so what do they have to lose

if vaccine works, they have a chance of survival

There was also thalidomide ... and that was just a sleeping pill. Turned out if you took it while pregnant, the babies were born with missing limbs. We had a thalidomide victim as a customer in my shop - rich as **** because he got a multi-million £ settlement. No arms though. He had to bop the FOBT button with his shoulder.

No.
Not a chance, but I am happy to be the one that they decide not to treat if it comes to the crunch.
As long as they send me off with morphine.

It's sad and disgusting what happened to the thalidomide victims. The people responsible for that don't seem to care what they've caused. They didn't do any testing on it.

I saw a documentary about an Australian guy who's mother unfortunately took it whilst pregnant with him. He has no arms and uses his feet for everything.

They need to know how it affects all age ranges though, so they have to test it on all adult age ranges.

Also Nicky you're usually good at avoiding misinformation with Covid... it is NOT a death sentence for the elderly, the death rate for even elderly cases is "only" 20% or thereabouts. Now that is obviously very high, it means 1-in-5 elderly people who get it will die however most elderly people do recover... it's not a case of "Oh I've got it, so that's it, might as well test drugs on myself". Even 50% who end up in ICU with breathing assistance pull through.
