Default Johnson & Johnson on potential COVID-19 vaccine

Quote:
Johnson & Johnson to start human trials of coronavirus vaccine in September

Johnson & Johnson announced Monday that it has selected a coronavirus vaccine candidate to test in humans.

The experimental vaccine will begin the first phase of human clinical trials in September, and if the testing goes as planned, the first round of vaccines could be administered under emergency authorization in early 2021, according to the company.

Johnson & Johnson has been working on a potential vaccine for COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, since January. In an interview with NBC's “TODAY” show, the company’s chairman and CEO Alex Gorsky said it’s a candidate “that has a high degree of probability of being successful.”

J&J also revealed plans to devote more than $1 billion for vaccine research development and testing in partnership with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Service’s Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority.

The more "effective" a virus is, the harder it is to vaccinate against. Effective doesn't mean deadly though; basically the opposite... the longer a virus can go undetected the more effective it is (the virus wants to survive and spread as long as possible; it can't do that in a dead host).

HIV was always deadly but it was still "effective" even in the early days; it was asymptomatic for months or even years in the host. These days with meds you can catch it at 30 and still live a full life, with the virus living in your blood the entire time.

But also, yes, whoever creates an effective Covid vaccine first is going to profit to an insane extent. BILLIONS of units sold to governments, instantly.

all the concerted effort that went in to HIV research advanced scientific methods astronomically, so since then we have refined and improved our methods of approach. We will see the benefits now, as in the past, it could have taken 20+ years to get to the point we could well be at next year

The annual flu vaccine will also have made a huge difference; developing, prepping and testing a vaccine within the span of a year has become a regular thing.

i think there's better odds the virus could slow down a lot when it has peaked

so yeah i think we should hope for a bit of luck here, and that we all contribute our share in the quarantine measures, staying at home etc

everyone can help slow down the spread

As soon as it looks like things are improving the idiots will be out and about even if the restrictions remain in place ..

Our cul de sac are all obeying the rules APART from the two old blokes in their mid seventies who are still going out in their cars two or three times a day ..one goes to get a newspaper each morning and the other visits his ageing lady friend each evening - both do other trips out daily
