Default Will you implement social distancing into your life after the virus?

Will you be wary standing so close to someone you dont know? Will you be happy to take part in big crowds? Will you shake hands with people on a daily basis?

Or as the virus made you think of how easy it is to catch stuff that you will now remain extra cautious?

I like to maintain my personal space naturally, I'm not a hugger or particularly touchy feely, apart from with my son so I won't be seeking to reduce that. Having said that, I do go to gigs etc where you can't help but be in a crowd so I guess I may be a bit wary initially but like everything else, people forget bad times when they have passed so I think after a while, everyone will be crammed into pubs and clubs without a thought

Let's put it this way ! ,life will never be the same again for anyone. Especially the paranoid and the people with Autism & OCD.

I don't know how they're coping or will cope when it's all over, I think this will turn people into hermits more.

And I bet when we get the all clear , if you cough or sneeze in public you'll either get given daggers or you'll get verbal abuse or in worst cases into violence.

This will encourage thug behaviour .

I'm the same, Annie, I'm not a fan of hugging, especially when you meet a stranger that wants to hug and kiss you! strange...

Like you I will probably be initially wary but then things slide back to normal, don't they. Well, I hope they do anyway.

I'm not liking the casual attitude of China, they have lifted the lockdown way TOO EARLY At this rate we'll never be rid of it.

I saw an article about possiblity of schools reopening , I'm done!!!! .

no, many people still continue to wear protective masks anyway there

even one on train wears diving goggles, as well as a mask

but many are happy again they can go back to work as normal, and normal days returning again

All of those things applied to me before now so...

I don't like physical closeness with people I don't know, I don't use public transport (for years) and I *hate* crowds, they make me quite claustrophobic - e.g. in lecture theatres and cinemas I always sit at the end of a row. In fact I tend to time cinema trips so that there'll be no one or very few people there.

But yes I think it'll have a long term effect on social behaviour for a lot of people. Not everyone though, and not forever... This isn't the first pandemic the world has lived through, just the only one in living memory.

It *should* settle into being a "normal" illness though. For example, measles is both physically worse AND more contagious than Covid (measles is one of the most contagious viruses in existence), you do still get pockets of measles outbreaks, but a measles pandemic is unlikely if not impossible, partly because of vaccination, but epidemics were relatively rare before vaccination was a thing because of antibody levels in the community. In theory, that's likely to be Covid in a few years time.

I'm already wary , and I've always washed hands and used hand sanitisers.

I've always hated overcrowded buses and shops etc.

It'll be circulating anyway, a vaccine isn't a magic bullet and every virus we vaccinate against still circulates. I believe smallpox was "more or less" eradicated but it still exists.

Measles, mumps and rubella (the vax "big three") still have regular small-scale outbreaks.

Yes I know it will still be circulating even without a vaccine I probably worded my post wrong but I meant like the cold virus it will always be around, obviously a vaccine will help the vulnerable and we wont have to social distance so much for fear of killing the oldies

Yeah I remember a while ago, didn't someone catch measles and it still seemed a shock as we don't really hear about it .

But look at meningitis , the vaccine for that stopped people catching it .And only a few people get it.

it makes no sense anymore to compare to a regular ''cold virus''

Some symptoms are similar, you can compare it in the sense there's always been bugs and flu going around.

There are 500-1000 confirmed cases of measles in the UK every year and there was a larger outbreak not all that long ago (within the last decade). It just isn't reported very often because there's no real risk of widescale spread in the uk.

There are dozens of active larger outbreaks around the world though, in poorer countries. Not to mention TB... TB kills 1.5 million people every year. Unthinkable in countries like the UK but very real elsewhere.

Yeah we don't really hear about it , as you say it's not a serious threat in the UK anymore .

Poorer countries are always more at risk of germs , diseases etc .
