Labour is to call for the energy price cap to be frozen this autumn, part of a plan to deal with the cost of living.
Sir Keir Starmer is expected to make the call on Monday, in which he will explain how Labour would pay for the plan if it was in power. ----------------------------------------- It's good to know that labour are taking my suggestions on board |

Yes,
I posted the Observer Front Page on the Energy Thread BBC Text: [Starmer is to call for a ban on the rise in the energy price cap set to be introduced this autumn. The paper says the rise would be "crippling" if it goes ahead and that a ban would save the average household Ł2,000 a year on their gas and energy bills.] |

If there's a way to do that.
It makes great sense to do so. Let's hope he explains it in detail. It sounds a good plan, if it can be implemented. |

Starmer has gone live on all the morning news,
BBC Central London even lent Starmer the Roof to go live on GMBHD itv. I mean downstairs on the Outside street he may get abuse shouted at him. He is very Cocky but his fully costed plan is not in power. Last edited by arista; 15-08-2022 at 08:08 AM. |

To be fair the Lib Dems have called for this too.
However with the main opposition Party on the same page now that should add more clout to it. Putting pressure on whichever of the 2 dismal candidates end up being Con leader and sadly PM. Labour and Lib Dems can come up with the goods when they stop the backbiting and work together. Way back in 2010, Andy Burnham then health secretary worked with other Parties and with Lib Dem Norman Lamb was coming up with a good plan on social care with the NHS. That was wiped away by the Cons in the coalition. Labour and the Lib Dems can be a strong electoral force as was shown in 2005. This seems a good plan indeed on energy and hopefully pressure will build heavily on this shambolic government to stop being so arrogantly incompetent and actually listen to others and voters too. |

However both the Lib Dems know to have clout on issues, they need the main opposition to be in some agreement with them. Plus Lib Dems supporting such issues reinforces the argument put forward by Labour. The stronger the opposition Parties are on issues, the weaker and more out of touch that can make the government look. Last edited by joeysteele; 15-08-2022 at 09:14 AM. |

Starmer , Yesterday Gareth Derrick Labour MP, [I invited Keir Starmer to Plymouth to commemorate VJ Day and meet with veterans from our city. He heard from families affected by the Pacific war, from Falklands veterans and a younger generation with their own stories to tell. Keir’s focus on their concerns was much appreciated.] |

ANDREW NEIL: If Starmer thinks he'll win power by
waiting for the new PM to fail, he'll just be another Labour loser https://www.dailymail.co.uk/columnis...w-PM-fail.html |

Except that's not what Starmer thinks at all. The problem now which could be much moreso for the Cons.now with gross Truss as leader. Is Truss being so bad she raises more confidence FOR Starmer from more voters. I have no liking for Starmer but pressure on him for better policies and plans will be ongoing with the climate rising for those better and popular policies. If he does the right thing and takes those policies on board. That will only be good for Labour. Truss going down the harder line she's chosen to in order to win support from only the Con members is only likely to turn off voters even more. She is more likely to be another disaster I think. |
