My seriously ill mother, who we nearly lost twice in the space of a few months, hasn’t been able to see her other kids or her grandkids for 7 weeks because of this virus, but even though we’ve stuck to the guidelines and the rules for her safety, it’s entirely likely it’ll all have to be extended because the Wetherspoons massive can’t miss out on a grotty street party for a year? It’s reprehensible and completely selfish, what a shambles of a ‘society’ we have

Yes and touching trolleys, checkouts and freezer doors..I guess that's the store employees responsibility too?

Bless her, I totally agree the message is lost on these clowns that we need to protect the vulnerable. Using VE day as an excuse for a party is the opposite if what should be happening.

A couple of weeks back there was outrage about a handful of kids kicking a ball about on their street... and suddenly this is acceptable?

It's due to the whole brexit inspired latching on of anything that can be touted as 'British' Lets be honest. During the war what did they do when the enemy flew over? They stayed indoors!... They only partied when the threat had gone for good. This enemy hasn't gone, it's potentially invited itself to every street party in the country.

Was shocked when I went out for a walk how many people had visited their friends and family and were all sat together in their gardens also loads of neighbours sat togeter probably for most of the day. Yet my friends and family still havent seen my baby and i havent seen them other than virtual since lockdown i dont get how that is fair everyone sent out the wrong message yesterday and for the news to make out how great it is is even more confusing. Dont be suprised to see the death rate high in weeks time, a time we might have been able to come out of lockdown now tarnished. Idiots

So much for “sit in your front garden and have a drink with the neighbours from a distance”.

People are idiots and selfish ones at that. It’s costing peoples lives.

As long as they're maintaining social distancing, it's fine. Community spirit <3

it's just plain stupid these street parties

hell, we dutch had 75th anniversary of liberation day here this week but did anyone go outside and party, nope everyone stayed at home as it should

we wanted to go out and party on this more festive than usual liberation day but we can't cause of the dangers of covid-19

only thing or gesture what was made was a nice heart over rotterdam bridge by 100 drones

and a nice alternate music concert from a smaller carré venue without public in the room and some of orchestra from their homes, and a bit looking back at some moments in our history since our liberation was also nice of our broadcaster to show on tv

Unsure where that video was taken but I’ve seen pics of things like that all across the UK.

Such a kick in the teeth to people who are struggling but following the rules to a T

I hope you’re joking. 2m social distancing is for when you absolutely have to leave home for essential reasons, not when you’re dicking around getting drunk with loads of neighbours

Rather silly to do a conga down the street, the 2m distancing with a rope just won’t work.
Sitting in your front garden, keeping a good distance from your neighbours is fine.
The big party should be held when lockdown finishes, to celebrate everything we have all missed, birthdays, anniversaries etc.
The same as we should have church bells ring out and memorials for all those that have been lost to this virus.

A few neighbours did that in the next street they were sitting at their own tables having tea ...that was a socially distant way to do it...and then there is a conga ...

Not sure where the op lives but that isn't the scenes here. So far what I have seen in Scotland is nothing but people respectfully following the advice.

Don't paint the UK with your own estate and how your own neighborhood behaves

your respective area/neighbourhood in scotland to be more accurate i think

i don't think you can speak for entire scotland either

sorry for correcting you, but as your final sentence goes in that post, accuracy in smallest details is required for your neighbourhood

I am referring to 3 parts of Scotland I have been to this week and all the other parts shown this week in TV and in newspapers.

The scene in post one is not one I or many members will recognise
