Maybe he was aiming at the ‘privately owned’ homes who seem to have got off scott-free .. . As owners it was THEIR responsibility to protect everyone in THEIR homes and provide appropriate PPE ..

Fair point, the govt gas a duty of care to NHS facilities but not necessarily to private business in the same field imo.

No, I don't accept that nor did he distinguish anyway in his comments.

It doesn't matter.
The responsibility of this pandemics handling, as to protection of all, particularly the most vulnerable sick and elderly.

The availability and preparation of enough and the right protection equipment.

The level of testing, in institutions and the wider public.
Were all under the control of the government.

It is their duty to set out clear laws, rulings and guidelines.
They are the ones with their chosen scientific and public health advice only given to them,to set out such rules and guidelines.
For all to follow.

They closed down private businesses, churches and all public buildings too.

Private home or not.
It is the government that should have made sure all guidelines were in place and followed..
The fact is,this government badly prepared for this virus.
The lack of PPE and its availability too, contributed to deaths of Doctors, Nurses, Care staff and Patients too.

The testing programme which the government had to put in place and support.
Totally inadequate at the very least.

No, he was trying to divert criticism and blame from his government's failure to protect,in the case of these elderly in Care homes, those who needed more protection too.
Even failing to ensure enough protection equipment was available to protect the staff working there too.

He hasn't a single defence that I can see, and his comments were insulting to the Homes, the staff and to all who have lost one or even more elderly loved ones in any Care home.

Totally agree with this Joey, looking at my reply to that comment around the public/ private issue it doesnt make the salient points here less relevant.
Of course the advice/action early on was patchy from the govt that's the reason for the explosion in infection in the UK nothing else.

Almost 300 again over the 3 days of this week.

On top of around 500 last week.

To the ever larger number growing of those bereaved and now mourning, devastating.

Yet, this can be classed as ' good ' news.
Really!

As sad as it is that people die, if people don't social distance it's going to continue. The lockdown's only purpose was to stop the NHS being overwhelmed and that was a success story. We can shout in frustration, but until we get a 100% effective treatment or a vaccine people will continue to die. No country can avoid that. The government can put in place rules and regulations, which they have done. Some are more relaxed than I think is sensible like the 1 metre + distance and the lack of quarantine for overseas entry, but if the rate of infection doesn't rise that is a good call. It is terrible that we have this virus but people always feel helpless and want to hit out and attach blame someone in these circumstances and the easy target is the government when all they are trying to do is protect peoples health and keep the country functioning to the best of their ability

We’re still losing the equivalent of a crammed plane crashing every day.

We are indeed.
I'm sorry, well no I'm not sorry but for me that's a disaster.

So to me no risks should be being taken.

We've no idea across the Nation, who or how many are carrying this virus.
Shielding is going to be stopped after the end of this month.

More and more elderly and vulnerable sick, then going out more.
As more and more are back to work and less time to help others.

It's not a question of blame it's about responsibility and right.
The need to protect.
That is what whichever Party in power should be doing.

Again no apologies, for this, that is not what's being done.
The protection is being eased.
Now more and more out in the streets, going now to pubs and other places.
All around shops and supermarkets.
Never even having to wear a mask or face covering either.

Reckless and dangerous.
It's also not just deaths that need considering.
Some people get seriously ill with this and are left with life changing health problems and even brain, kidney, liver and of course lung damage.

Those in power should be making sure No risks are taken.
None at all.

I'm not going to stop highlighting the deceit of them.
It's clear some in the Country still think they've done a good job.

As you have just pointed out, losing a plane load of people daily.
I see nothing as to a good job on that, especially when we've lost so many already where the UK is the third worst in the World, and the worst in Europe for deaths.

Shocking and a scandal.

I'd hope it doesn't hijackers.
However I have the fear it will.

Again however, it's also not just the deaths.
Which are still worrying and shocking.

People are left in hospital for weeks and months.
Then some left with other permanent organ damage if they survive.
Their lives never to be the same again.

Ah yes ... I gave a bad example there

That said when there’s a disaster or a tragedy it’s incredible how the ‘figures’ vary on the different news sites ... each trying to outdo the others

I think some businesses are using the virus to get rid of staff who they normally would struggle to get rid of?

Boots Opticians are shedding staff, has people's eyesight suddenly improved?
