Steve Powis, NHSE medical director, is up now and
drawing parallels with France,
where there has been a warning that without new measures,
there'll be 11,000 intensive
care patients by the middle of November
He says the picture is similar in Spain and we are
starting to see the same here.]

[Professor Powis: 'We are now having to make greater use
of our third line of defence - hospital care'
He said the UK now has more patients in the hospital
then we did when the government announced
lockdown measures in March.

He said personal measures like washing your hands,
wearing masks and keeping an appropriate distance
has helped as the first line of defence,
as well as measures like the rule of six

Test and trace have helped as a
second line of defence.
But now we are having to rely on hospital care.]

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ab_Osterhaus

this one i would put forward as a RIVM director of my country, if i had anything to say

i mean Ab has got loads of experience with the first SARS virus, and also with the H5N1 virus

Ab now in the current coronacrisis, he says we should all follow the german approach, look closely at how they are taking this virus on, how majority of german public trust their government, wear masks, and stay home as much as they can

and also corona-app works perfectly over there too, and local mayors of all regions wherever you got a outbreak, they contain it, quarantine a wider community for a week or two weeks

Ab is also a fan of Merkel's calculating style, like predicting how much new cases could come if you don't make any changes, and how much you can prevent if you take action as fast as possible

They just used that data briefing to justify what is to come this afternoon. Its inevitable we will be locked down further I think.....I just hope they do regular reviews and don't leave us in limbo with it.

When he was editor of the spectator. It's no real surprise his far right government is picking up from where thatcher left off.

what I find baffling about the North, is that locking down earlier was meant to be a cure all for this virus, but in effect the North did lock down early as they were two/three weeks behind London cases when we locked down in March, but cases have never stopped rising even over the summer period, it's inexplicable to me

I think as BOTs said earlier the way we socialise up here is a little different, I think we probably have more multi-generational families, the weather is often more inclement up here driving people indoors etc.....and let's face it, we obviously don't wash out hands properly

I can't explain it....in the first of lockdown I know very few people who broke the rules but since the relaxation started I think many people returned to behaving exactly as they did before. As I said, it is to be expected but still a kicker none the leas

They would say that though ...

I don’t recall seeing any evidence you can catch it / spread it by hugging either ...

All they need to do is to close down schools.

I'm sorry but its obvious that as soon as schools reopen the virus spread.

yes and then doing a ''school from home'' via facetime, skype

giving students assignments for history lessons too, to go studying a specific topic via wikipedia

lots of educational stuff you can do from home honestly

as for cleaners at schools, they can do that more safely when there are no students present
