Now allegedly we have all the PPE required, we have the ventilators and we have the Nightengales, so what is the reason for a lockdown which will not be observed at this stage and people will gather in homes
Nah, the extra time that was bought was wasted; we're still nowhere close to being in a position to stop the NHS being overwhelmed. Even if we did have abundant PPE, ventilators and beds (we don't, but if we did) ... We simply don't have the staff. It's not just about redistributing and shuffling people around, ICU staff have specific skills and training, you can't just ship in a doctor from gastroenterology and a couple of nurses from oncology and expect them to be able to staff an ICU bed.

my area has among the lowest rates of infection in the country, it doesn't need a lockdown and there are loads of places in a similar situation. Hotspots should be locked down, fair enough, but we don't need a nationwide lockdown at all. Why would I follow stricter restrictions when they are obviously not needed in my area

Even the infection rate doesn't matter, it can be as high as you like provided it doesn't translate into hospital admissions, that's the reason liverpool are now in the 3rd tier

Makes you wonder why they don’t just have a lockdown for all the over 50’s and shield them from any contact from others .. plus shield/protect the hospitals and care homes like never before

It’s interesting to see that the infection is being driven by the under 30’s and 65% of all the job losses are also under 30’s .

If they don’t care about the over 50’s maybe they’ll take more care as more of them lose their jobs

well i told my mom about that idea, to shield elderly and let young people just do what they want

but she doesn't like that, she just wants everything cancelled, closed until there is a vaccine, well it does not work like that

i think our current new measures especially when the mask requirement will come, will help in bringing numbers down, making people overall more at ease and morale better if everyone wears a mask

why should over 50's be isolated in areas of low infection, they arent going to catch it if they follow the simple guidelines.

We certainly don't want to enforce shielding like we did in March, it's up to people to make their own choices if they are vulnerable. Every possible shopping service is available to use online where goods are delivered to those isolating. There is just no need to enforce blanket rules at all.

true, in areas of low infection, simple guidelines can still work

but in that case no need to isolate them, cuz loneliness is also very bad for you mentally, especially older people

i'd say Tier 2, Tier 3 if regions fall under those isolate over 50's and also more vulnerable due to medical condition (some youngsters can be included among them either, asthma etc) that will make numbers of hospitalisations go down, and even better the death numbers

I'm not shielding.
I have rent and bills to pay, so I have to work.
I'll just have to be careful instead.

Many over 50’s still have to work and risk catching the virus ..

What an anxious time for you.

I hope you hear the same news on your friend too Lewis.
Really hope you get more good news.

For doing what? There are 6 of them....they could be students from the same bubble and therefore doing nothing wrong. Why are we shaming them,?

There’s thousands of people behind, can’t shame everyone

Also they look like students to me, quite likely the 6 live together in the same halls/bubble
