Yep sadly. I know of a few more friends of friends who have it up here at the moment too. We have been in effect under tier 2 since august and now tier 3 and the numbers are still rising. We will have our own herd immunity here if it keeps going like this

An apparent loophole in government rules has caused confusion over whether social clubs are subject to tier three Covid restrictions on serving alcohol.

In areas placed in tier three, pubs and bars must close unless they are serving substantial meals.

But some social clubs are continuing to serve alcohol to members without a substantial meal after their local councils told them it was permitted.

The Department for Health and Social Care has been contacted for comment.

There are thousands of members clubs across England, including conservative clubs, working men's clubs and sports clubs.

Councils in Wirral, Preston and Fylde have all advised their local social clubs that the discrepancy exists because they hold club premises certificates and not premises licences.

just thinking back to march and im sure it took about 6 weeks before things started going down. With this being in concentrated areas it should be a bit quicker but a month is probably the quickest it could be

It would be more worrying if she was there without her legs, surely.

(Being more serious though I'm sure it will be fine, they're generally quite good at keeping the Covid and non-Covid patients and staff well separated)

Even the experts don’t seem to know very much about the virus .. they all say ‘it should be ‘ or ‘we think’ or ‘possibly maybe’

I think the worst thing about all this ( apart from the risk of dying ) is all the flamin’ uncertainty tbh

The data for the IFR is pretty robust and has been holding steady in the 0.5 - 1% range since before the summer. 0.5% is a low end estimate though - around 0.8% (so 99.2% survival rate) is far more likely.

45000 deaths at an 0.8% fatality rate = around 5 and a half million cases overall in the UK since the start of the pandemic, which sounds quite realistic.

Worth noting though that it's less than 10% of the total population so if the virus WAS to make its way through the entire population, you're looking at nearly 500,000 total deaths in the UK.

I'm watching a programme about the Tower reopening after lockdown.
One of my favourite places in London.

Some cheery news first thing in the morning.....

Nearly 100,000 people are catching coronavirus every day in England, a major analysis suggests.

The study, by Imperial College London, says the pace of the epidemic is accelerating and estimates the number of people infected is now doubling every nine days.

The authors say we are at a "critical stage" and "something has to change".

France and Germany have turned to forms of lockdown to control the virus.

The government here is sticking to its regional strategy.

Experts are warning that we are fast approaching the peak in infections seen in the spring.

The React-1 study is highly influential because it is the most up-to-date assessment of Covid-19 in the country, with the last swabs taken only on Sunday and nearly 86,000 volunteers taking part.

It shows cases are rising in every age group and in every region of England.

While cases are currently highest in the North, infections are surging more rapidly in the South.

The study compared the latest swabs collected between 16 and 25 October with the last round of swabs, between 18 September and 5 October.

It suggests:

The number of people infected has more than doubled since the last round, with one in every 78 people now testing positive.

The hardest hit area is Yorkshire and the Humber, where one every 37 people has the virus, followed by the North West region.

Three times as many people aged 55-64 are infected and twice as many over 65s.

The pace of the epidemic has accelerated with the R number - the number of people each infected person passes the virus on to on average - increasing from 1.15 to 1.56.

Overall, the number of people infected is doubling every nine days.

The South East, South West, east of England and London all have an R above 2.0. London has an estimated R of 2.86.

Cases are spiking in young people in the South West in a repeat of the pattern seen in northern England just over a month ago.

96,000 people are now catching the virus every day.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-54723962

So it looks like areas that had low infection rates are starting to catch up

Indeed - it's basically Scotlands "Level 4" but country-wide rather than regional.

it's obvious they are trying to make people think ... they are in full lockdown we should be too... i never had a high opinion of the media before, but their handling of covid this year has been shocking
