The R number for coronavirus has fallen to between 0.9 and 1 for the first time since mid-August, which means the epidemic is thought to be no longer growing.

Graham Brady Conservative MP
does not want Tier 3. But again even if he gets MP's to block a vote on this, next week it's been reported Johnson's Bill will go through with the help of the Labour Party. |

it is lockdown 3 in all but name, particularly for those in tier 3, and its even more frustrating knowing my area has had a consistent low infection rate and still we end up in tier 3 with no valid justification for closing the pubs and restaurants. People are going to break the rules in those circumstances, and I cant blame them

Remembering Kerry
|
Quote:
Yes, and I agree that Labour will and should support this bill. The only thing I'm not happy about is this 5 day relaxation over Christmas. I wonder however, will he throw out the parliamentary party those MPs of his who may vote against these proposals. As he did so many last year. Somehow I doubt it, which will show his doing so last year was purely being vindictive. Not a good look for any PM. Then again, as was the case in recent years as to Corbyn facing revolt by his own MPs, it's not a good look alienating your own MPs. In the end however, I doubt Con backbenchers who shout a lot but don't follow up with rebellious action, even if they believe they're right, will actually dare to in any major numbers vote against his policy here again. |

Netherlands: Celebrating Christmas in a group is a major worry, infection chief says
The head of public health institute RIVM has told a television current affairs show that he expects Christmas will celebrated in small groups this year. ‘For the past two weeks, the infection rate has been falling slightly, but is stagnating,’ Jaap van Dissel told Nieuwsuur. ‘This means healthcare services are still being hard hit. And although there has been a drop in the number of hospital patients, it is still very slow and difficult.’ By next spring, however, when vaccinations are available, things will change, he said. And if enough people accept the vaccine, then sufficient group immunity may have been built up by the summer to allow life to return to normal, Van Dissel told the programme. The cabinet is due to flesh out the rules for Christmas and New Year on December 8. If new intensive care admissions was below 10 a day, Van Dissel said he and other experts in the government’s Management Outbreak Team would have recommended changes to the current ‘three visitors at home’ rule. ‘But now the figures have stagnated, we are very concerned about whether this will be the case by Christmas,’ he said. ‘If you celebrate Christmas in a group, then that can act as a catalyst to spread the virus further,’ he said. ‘A week later you have New Year, and everyone who picked up the virus at Christmas will spread it then. And that means in January you have the potential for a lot more cases.’ In order to reach some level of group immunity, 60% to 70% of the population would have to agree to be vaccinated. But research indicates that around half the population will not do that. ‘This worries me,’ Van Dissel said. ‘I would hope people would embrace the vaccine because at the moment it is the only way to get out of this pandemic.’ https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2020/1...on-chief-says/

Protest in London due to start at 12 o clock.
Police have warned them to stay at home. Rumour has it that the football lads are going. Should be interesting! I reckon they'll be a live feed from right in the heart of the protest. |
