Unfortunately, these are the only two tools Boris has on his belt. He has no idea how to do anything else.
The general public that voted for the Tories regularly fall for both. You don't need to be someone of substance and ideas when you have a bunch of sheep that will cheer regardless.

True, but I think that's starting to change. Sir Kier is great at PMQs, really shows Boris' hollow bluster for what it is. No-one could watch current PMQs and think Boris does well.

I'll believe it when I see it, Boris is the third in a line of flawed tory PMs (with him being the most flawed of the bunch so far) and I can't see people voting differently.

We've come to a position in history where people will vote for the tories regardless. I don't think there's any stopping their dominance at this point.

Who knows, Labour did pretty well in the Snap a few years back. A "better" party leader could have led the a completely different result.

But then, both parties had leaders who damaged their chances. The tabloids dressing up the skeletons in Corbyn's closet held him back, and Theresa May being a living disaster held her back.

Boris has spent so long cultivating his "good old chap" image that his party is probably is guaranteed a bunch of votes from people who don't pay a huge amount of attention to politics ~ and I can be guilty of that, the only issues I really care about are environmental and animals ~ that he'll probably be floating there for a while, until he really cocks it up. And he will. But will it be close enough to the next General to make a difference? and/or bad enough to be held against him anyway?

Netherlands: last nights press conference by Mark Rutte and Hugo De Jonge here

most is reopening from 1st of July

also official, from september public allowed again here at football matches, with social distancing, so 1/3 can enter, will have to be drawn who can go to which match i guess

also the eurovision2021 venue Ahoy is reopening then, so some work for that next year can already be starting too

mostly good news

and our health minister de jonge had good news that the corona-app is also underway and ready very shortly from now on

daily update

3 new deaths

5 new hospitalisations

so again a low there

Rules have been over for all intents and purposes since cummings, let's be honest about that fact.

The states that opened up quickly in the USA are really starting to suffer now with huge rises in infected people. Trump has responded by stopping the funding of 13 testing centers including 7 in Texas, one of the worst affected states. I see something similar happening here

I agree with you on this, but when the government defends an advisor over making sure the rules in place are followed, then they instantly lost all moral authority, and ever since then the public have made the rules, the government just announced them.

Yes it's confusing, but again we know there's still a threat, we don't need to hang on every word the Government says, or doesn't say. There is a lot of confusion, but people flocking to beaches in their thousands is just utterly ridiculous. If any of them contract Covid, they only have themselves to blame.

Yeah i agree with this. Again, all boils down to common sense, which is non existent in this case.

...this tweet really explains how many of the public seem to be feeling...

...although many of us might not agree with that thought process, it’s basic psychology and human behaviour, having sacrificed freedoms for so long...with Dominic Cummings it was Boris’ time to show strength but instead he showed weakness and the consequences of that will filter through for a Long time...

I'm one of the people that still hasn't flouted any of the rules, and I'm still going about things as though the rules are a lot stricter, because of family members that would be at severe risk.

You can trace this straight back to Cummings. Within a couple of days the parks were full again. It is a cop out, but the gov gave away their ability to (try and) lead. All the people that thought it was a waste of time and the moaners and complainers went straight back into normal life.

I went to do a bit of shopping today, and I only saw 3 ther people wearing a mask (apart from all the staff).
