People are having a fine old time pulling apart comedy and old films when actually, the thing that needs policing more is the Internet. And usually it's the same people who don't want us to see Gone With The Wind are the same people who don't want the Internet policed.

To me, it's all about company's competing with each other for who can do the most virtue signalling. Virtue signalling is rife

comparing Roots and Gone with the wind

Roots has more realistic view on slavery, so it could be seen as educational, more historical

than a gone with the wind, who had shown the slaves in that to be happy to be slaves which is clearly a wrong view about slavery

Correct

It's about blame, marketing and money

In the ten years I've been here you've only posted to me in the last six months or so, and it's all been venom. I don't know you. You don't know me. Let's keep it that way.

Oop that's a stereotype. .

It's not only the 'hard left' that know Hollywood depictions of sensitive subjects are glamorised.
As I've said on other threads I think the removal is a diversion, however it may be a catalyst for a generational shift change.

We are living through the early years of a new milenia... Change is good, the scales falling from eyes and seeing how different people have been and are treated is good.

As long as it is handled peacefully and sensitively I believe it's welcome and necessary.

The film is widely available to buy and it always will be. It's not censorship or 'legislating what we can or cannot see' for a company to decide what to host on their platform. No one is banning Gone With The Wind.

Pointing that out is not an attack and it's not 'venomous'.

Yes I’d agree ..

Incidentally some secondary/high schools do indeed show parts of the series Roots in History lessons

No offense but you can be a little moody. I think you put me on your ignore list some years ago?

To the original post...

It is strange (but true) that the best way to boost the popularity of movies that are over 50 years old is to ban them. GWTW is once again cool and popular among some sectors of the population.

It's not been banned, it is literally available in loads of places.

I never understood it's popularity in the first place!, Movie is a long ass 4 hours long and it's most famous for the line "frankly my dear I don't give a damn" .

Which is funny as I don't give a damn about this movie and never have watched it . It looks boring as hell.

It having a famous catchphrase doesn't make it famous for the catchphrase.

Well the obvious racism is what it's known for aswell. But point I'm making is it's one of those movies where that's the only quote people know and it's the end of the movie.

How would you know when you've never watched it.

Well if you're trying to have a discussion about the movie, you kind of need to have watched it or you sound daft.

Personally I don't think anyone, no matter who they are or were, should be on banknotes.

Only the Monarch should be, no one else.
I'm fed up of the glorifying of others on things like this.

Reflect the Nation's of the UK.

Have a scene from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales on, if there must be something else other than the Monarch.
Do away with any or all glorification of individuals for me.
Divisive or otherwise.

Just my view however.
