Default Hamilton (July 3rd, Disney+)

It's not something I know a lot about aside from it's impact on pop culture but I'm quite intrigued to see what the fuss is about. Disney paid a stupid amount of money for rights to screen the stage performance and they were going to release it in cinemas next year until Covid came about.

If theatres across the country weren't postponing/scaling down productions (including the West End run of Hamilton), running out of cash, making massive job cuts and in some cases going bust, I'd probably be a little happier to see Disney's pockets getting lined off the back of this

It's a televised screening of a stage show and, thus, will be crap. I love live theatre but it doesn't translate to screen at all, the whole point of it is that the person is right there and it is 100% live... Every intonation, every stumble and recovery, that person is right there in front of you.

I love TV and film, too, but its an entirely different medium.

I can't stand musicals in movie form but have seen three live in the West End and they were all incredible. I've seen a recording of a show I was actually at online and it just doesn't capture that feeling and atmosphere, at all.

To be fair I don't think Disneys's pockets will be well lined by this at all; they would have been with the original plan to release in cinemas and make box office dollah from it. The only way they can make money now is if the presence of Hamilton results in a significant increase in Disney+ subs (which I just don't see happening).

I dunno, I've never seen a recording before so I can't judge but I always imagine them to basically be one camera pointing at the stage and recording the performance as is but I think Disney's gone for more than that with this one. Seems like there's some real effort put into the cinematography.

I'll give it a watch.

The bloody Rat is grabbing more cheese, I see ...

I don't know much about Hamilton at all. I know that song I'll Be Back, which seems to be identical to Daydream Believer I'll check it out, Miranda's stuff is usually pretty good.
