It is a little bit rich to have a Finnish conductor trying to "reduce the patriotism".

I'm all for getting rid of songs linked with slavery and/or racism, but to say she wants rid of patriotism?

But preparations for the concert have been overshadowed by a huge row over proposals to drop Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory from the evening.

This year's conductor Miss Stasevska, 35, from Finland, is said to be keen to modernise the evening's repertoire and reduce its patriotic elements.

A BBC source told the Sunday Times: 'Dalia is a big supporter of Black Lives Matter and thinks a ceremony without an audience is the perfect moment to bring change.'

She has also spoken out in praise of Democrat US politician Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez:UMM2: and once retweeted a Time magazine front cover about Greta Thunberg.

SO this extreme leftist from FInland is trying to change the GBP's Prom?

??
It's articles like this that create a right wing backlash of the sort that costs lives.

The decision to alter the playlist was discussed by many many people involved in the production of the proms.

But no, it suits the agenda to infer it's the decision of a female leftist foreigner ..or if we're playing daily mail bingo a full house.

Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory to be SUNG during Last Night of the Proms, BBC confirms...

Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory will now be sung by a select group of vocalists during the Last Night of the Proms, the BBC has confirmed.

The broadcaster previously announced the songs would feature as instrumentals, following controversy over their perceived historical links with colonialism and slavery.

A spokesperson for the BBC Proms said: “The pandemic means a different Proms this year and one of the consequences, under Covid-19 restrictions, is we are not able to bring together massed voices.

“For that reason we took the artistic decision not to sing Rule, Britannia! and Land Of Hope And Glory in the Hall.

“We have been looking hard at what else might be possible and we have a solution.

“Both pieces will now include a select group of BBC singers. This means the words will be sung in the Hall, and as we have always made clear, audiences will be free to sing along at home. While it can’t be a full choir, and we are unable to have audiences in the Hall, we are doing everything possible to make it special and want a Last Night truly to remember.

“We hope everyone will welcome this solution. We think the night itself will be a very special moment for the country – and one that is much needed after a difficult period for everyone.

“It will not be a usual Last Night, but it will be a night not just to look forward to, but to remember.”

It's gross that the BBC caved to gammon that won't ever watch the Proms, not when they can watch reruns of Only Fools and Horses on Gold.

the bbc has lost a lot of credibility for getting on countless reasons now. I don't know if the government can take it's charter away early or not ... i'm guessing they can ... whatever ... the bbc as we know it is finished

Guess which version of events I believe ^^^^

Actually if I'm not keen on a line of a song I often just adapt the words to ones I'd use when singing it anyway.

As I said earlier, I've never really liked Rule Brittania anyway.

The slave line always sounded ridiculous to me.
For any reason.
As for ruling the waves, REALLY!.

Land of hope and Glory.
I like very much, although I prefer it too just done without the words.
It's a beautiful melody.
Much like Elgar's Nimrod, which would sound so wrong with lyrics.

Jerusalem I love, one of my Aunt's used to sing that really loudly.
For me that's a more hopeful permanent fixture of Last Night of the Proms.

The BBC however is seeming to really digging deeper and deeper holes for itself.
Not just on this issue.
However across the board too.

It's news for instance, I've lost count of in news programmes now, where the newsreader is constantly saying, er, erm, hmm etc:

So perhaps when singing for instance, Rule Brittania, on lines anyone doesn't like.
Just hum that line, or stay silent and don't sing it.
Or just don't sing it at all.

I mean I get it in principle but... the "never shall be slaves" line is part of the chorus and crescendo of the song, it would sound hilsrous if it was replaced with humming .

"Ruuuule Britannia! Britannia rule the waves... Briiiitons never, never, neeever hmmm hmmm hmmmmmmmmmm"

oh gosh, I get your point there.

Although a kind of very gently but effective protest at the line that would be if all did it.

Quite frankly TS, on the rare times I've been anywhere where Rule Brittania has been included.
I just stay silent really.
I just never sing it

I don't really like the awkward melody and the words to me are frankly ridiculous.

I can't say I'm a fan anyway... though it's better than "God Save The Queen" (Rebellious Scots to crush, indeed )

We could just change all of the lyrics to fit 2020 better!

"Rule Britannia!
Brittania rule the waves
Deliverrrr chlor-in-at-ed-chicken
from U. S. AAAA"

Oh don't start me on the National anthem..

I dislike that totally.
I think the tune is mournful and the words totally inappropriate.
Awful.

See, you've picked up my idea, sing that to Rule Brittania definitely,
