...as long as you need it to be, really...and obviously taking into it your employers needs as well in any negotiations...a work balance in terms of finances and needs and other life balances etc will be very personal and individual...I think that’s what Cal said also...

Oh give up if the person cleaning the **** didn't have their wages processed by payroll then how would they get paid? And if the guy in HR didn't get paid how would he pay for childcare that wipes his kids ****ty arse while he's at work?

We all pay taxes and VAT, we are all important.

To answer the poll question, I think a 4-day week is a more reasonable work/life balance but really it depends on the job... and how much you actually enjoy doing it. I also think it's more about days than hours. I work 9-5 now so I don't have an option with hours, but back when I did work shifts I much preferred 4 x 10 hour shifts to 5 x 8 hour shifts. What does the extra 2h per day matter when the day is spent working anyway? Both are 40h weeks but with one pattern you get 3 full days off, with the other you only get 2. It's a no-brainer.

Back in my job at Uni (zero hour contract ) I could get a 35h week in over 2 and a half days and loved it. Two 14 hour shifts (8am - 10pm) and one 7 hour shift (3pm - 10pm).

We discovered in a thread a while back that Parmy mainly plugs things back in that have come loose, switches things on at the wall, and changes the occasional fuse. Puts batteries in remotes. That sort of thing. I'm still convinced that flat-screen TV's are just not repairable. If they are I've thrown out like 3 perfectly good tellies in the last 10 years .

And yet without those guys in the office nobody is getting paid for whatever job it is they're doing. Almost like it's not a competition.

An awful lot of people would find working in admin a lot more difficult than manual work actually, every type of job is vital in it's own way

The helpdesk in work are much the same. The IT Crowd was not exaggerating. It's literally the "have you tried switching it off and on again?" line.

Wonder how the woman selling pies at Tottenham’s ground feels about Gareth Bale picking up £600,000 a week

The next five weeks he won’t even be putting his boots on as he’s injured ..

You have, all samsung tvs are repaired by either changing a screen or a motherboard....I only deal with 65 inches and above, usually fitting them in some attic room on the third floor if a block of flats..the job itself is simple, but the getting the screen from a to b is a ****

Very true, I find all the admin side of my job the hardest, even though it's just taking photos and sending a report off via email..I also forget my tools a lot and have to replace them cause I've left them in someone's house..

I once(2nd day on the job) travelled 40 miles across london to begin my day, opened the backdoor of the van and I had only forgot to put all my parts to replace that day in the van....I had to phone my boss and tell him I had shat myself rather than admit my idiocy.
