Default Stupid question but...

Do you think wearing a mask may in some way prevent you from catching the cold, or at least help battle it?

Because I have been sniffing and sneezing all morning but as soon as I put my mask on it's stopped

I've just realised that is literally the reason you've seen Asian tourists wear them for years

Nope. Youd think with all the mask wearing etc we all wouldnt catch a cold wouldnt you. But a lot of us here in the forum seem to have one. And its supposed to prevent covid. Nah. Masks are so we dont get germs on other people they dont stop us getting ill ourselves

...it helps to prevent giving, rather than catching...but the theory of it, should help with both really if every one adheres to../..plus all other guidelines along side of....?...give a little less, catch a little little less because of preventative help, there is a little less to catch...etc...It’s all connected to your shoulder bone...

In theory and in lab studies yes however in large scale measurements of cultures where it's been a societal norm for a long time (e.g. Japan) there is little to no evidence that it reduced rates of common cold in the general population.

However in your OP it sounds like you were saying you thought you HAD the beginnings of a cold and it then went away when you put on your mask - which makes no sense whatsoever. More likely is that the warm, humid air inside the mask is easier on your sinuses than the cold fresh air, thus irritating your nose less.

Some science bod suggested that by so many of us ( over 30’s !! ) wearing masks / relentless hand washing it SHOULD , in theory, result in many of us avoiding the usual coughs , cold , flu bugs etc

So the good news is fewer sore throats , ticklely coughs and aching limbs for the majority ... the bad news is many of us older ones are possibly gonna die from COVID

it could be some allergy that you have and the mask would help to reduce that

no, but an allergy to dust or hayfever etc would be improved by wearing a mask as it would reduce the irritation so that you sneezed etc less
