Default Meningitis..?

I'm not really sure how to explain, but I was really ill yesterday and I have 3 symptoms of meningitis (feverish with chills, nausea and stiffness of neck) and I have a red mark on my leg, and I'm really frickin' worried about it; my mum was the one who suggested it could be meningitis. I really don't know what meningitis actually is, and that's after looking at the wikipedia entry, so could somebody please tell me what it's all about? Everything I've ever heard about it has ended along the lines of "amputation" which, as you can imagine, I'm not too keen on.

So sorry you're feeling so poorly, Z.

I know 2 or 3 people at work who've had similar symptoms to you, but in their case it appeared to be a 24 hour viral illness with fluey symptoms.

This BBC Health website gives more information on the two types of meningitis .... CLICK HERE.

If you're really worried, then PLEASE call NHS 24 to get advice from them or ask to be seen by a doctor (08454 24 24 24) or go along to your nearest A&E Department or Minor Illness/Injury Unit to be checked out.

Hope you feel better soon.

Kaz

Do the glass test on the red marks Z. That's the first thing I do when any of my kids display symptoms like yours.

Yeah, put pressure on the rash and if it doesn't go white then it can indicate septicemia (if the rash is small pin pricks).

But still call the doctor or go to hospital.

I hope you feel better soon "Z"

I don't know too much about Meningitis, even though there is a lot of information about it and the internet can really tellyou so much.

But, Be warned!!

It can also amplify the condition and describe the worse case scenarios and scare you even more.

Don't read too much into those worse-case-scenarios, they tend to go into depth and my advise, is, "Make an emergency appointment with your doctor"

That will give you piece-of-mind, believe me.

The longer you wait, the worse you will feel.

I always rush to the doctor and am never scared to do so.

Take care "Z"

I'd advise doing the glass test, and if you don't feel better tomorrow just go to the doctors or do what kaz said and Ring NHS Direct.
Take Care

I'm feeling a lot better today, I've still got a head ache (not a headache, but an ache in my head. That makes no sense. >_>) and it's a bit sore if I breathe in deeply, but the red mark's gone! Thank you for all the advice though, my Mum was saying the same thing last night (I was sick a couple of times) but it's going now! !
