Default The Simpsons give 50 reasons not to reelect donald trump in next halloween episode

Quote:
They've never been afraid to take shots at celebrities, politicians, or even their own TV network.

And The Simpsons take aim at US President Donald Trump in their upcoming annual Treehouse of Horror anthology episode, which generally air around Halloween.

In the clip, obtained by Variety, the revered animated series listed 50 reasons not to reelect the sitting President.

In the episode, set to air on October 18, Homer Simpson arrives at a polling station ready to make decisions on all the smaller races, from propositions to judges.

However when it comes to voting for president, he calls the decision 'a stumper'.

It's then that daughter Lisa enters the polling booth, demanding, 'You're hesitating over President? By all that is decent, how can you forget everything that's happened the last four years?'

However, the only scandal Homer can conjure to mind is Faye Dunaway's infamous 2018 Oscar flub.

'Not sure what you're talking about, admits Homer, before Trump's many scandals and indiscretions scroll up the screen.

Among them are 'Put children in cages' and 'Called Tim Cook "Tim Apple"'.

'Talked about grabbing *****', 'Lied about the size of his inauguration' and 'Refused to release tax returns' are also included, as are the fact the billionaire 'Paid $750 in taxes' one year.

It concludes with the point that 'We haven't even said the worst one'.

The Simpsons is currently in its 32nd record breaking season, while this will be the 31st Treehouse of Horror Halloween special episode.

desperate.

Did the media not learn their lesson last time around?
Try to tell us who to vote for and we don't like it.

Sounds a bit cringey, but whatever, it's their cartoon.

I'm sure they'll get a boost to be told "don't vote for him as he didn't end the cagings that Obama started, and a bunch of crap which doesn't directly relate to his policies or presidency"

I'm not even a Trump supporter, but this once again highlights how dumbfoundedly awful The Simpsons has grown into in recent years. It was already proven in 2016 that whenever the media blatantly encouraged anti-Trump vendetta, it caused that to be one reason he was elected in protest by people of being sick of being told what to vote for, and this show was one of the examples that caused it, clearly learning nothing now. The Simpsons is meant to just entertain and humour people, it's not supposed to be a political vacuum of bias. In fact, there were almost no jokes in this anti-Trump promo by them, so it doesn't even feel remotely like the show really . And in the past when it has ventured into politics, as far as the classic era of the show goes at least, it kept things impartial and made fun of everything to therefore appeal to everyone.

Mess and it's supposed to be a Treehouse of Horror halloween episode, is the joke supposed to be that Trump's presidency is "scary"? It's just so preachy and transparent, and ultimately won't do anything to stop people voting Trump.

Haven’t watched The Simpson’s for years. I’ve seen clips of the South Park Pandemic Special and that looks pretty funny.

A better example of a long-running animated sitcom that's remained fresh in its satire all these years later .

Clearly an anti-Trump show but they're at least going about it a more intelligent and sharp way in the episodes

Given the vast wealth of the main cast it really wouldn't surprise me if half of them were Trump voters anyway. At the very best, they are Clintonite Democrats that don't give a **** about working class people or social responsibility.

But where's the comedy in that? Why should that be used as a Simpsons joke?

I'd also like to add that in the video's 50 reasons diatribe, one of the points are on Manchester, embarrassingly misspelling it as... "Machester"

Meh. Presidentially he's no worse than anyone else. The "kids in cages" thing is a carryover from Obama's presidency, and most of the other things aren't really related to how he's been running the country.

I'd argue that it's not as simple as actual policy decisions when weighing up how dangerous he is in a position of power. Just being there as a figurehead emboldens a certain demographic to action and exacerbates America's deeply-embedded divisions in very unproductive ways.

In short, his very presence in that position of power legitimizes trolling and anti-intellectualism and THAT is doing a lot of damage.

It's not a carry over from obama - it's a bastardisation of the Obama policy which was designed to protect against trafficking.

He ignored warnings from his own intel to take the words of dictators, including not even challenging Russia about putting bounties on US troops. The DoJ is supposed to be America's protection, but they've ended up as his own personal lawyers, defending him in court. He's had more of his staff indicted than any president in history, including Nixon.

He's consistently put his re-election and business interests ahead of the US interests, and that just to mention a few of the illegal things he's done. It's crazy to suggest he's no different from the others.

That's fair. I wish anti-Trumpers would come up with stuff like that more often, instead of calling him a long list of adjectives and "Cheeto Hitler". I guess that's an example of the anti-intellectualism he begets

I'm neither pro nor anti, I don't really care either way tbh. It'd be just as annoying if a list of reasons to reelect him included "he had a cameo in Home Alone" and "he's LITERALLY making America great!!!111"
