Arista, once again, standing against democracy by opposing the right for everyone to be involved in politics. You should try living in a dictatorship, you'd probably love it.

What politicians do affects everyone.

Of course anyone has the right to campaign and speak out against wrong and injustice.

Or do you want us to just be obedient robots, doing all and anything a Con government decrees whether right or wrong.

I wish more people like Rashford would speak out and expose the wrong heartlessness of any government that pursued it.

Of course anyone speaking out against this government is likeky to get the real Con supporters jumping in to attack them when and if they do.

We live in a democracy, or used to that is.

Seems like unless you tow the left wing mantra "Rashford good, Government bad" you get vile verbal abuse and "cancelled"

Poor Guy Mowbray was attacked for a perfectly normal comment on tv introing the man u game v chelsea

"'He didn't get a win in Parliament, but he got the winner in Paris. Whether you agree with Marcus Rashford's causes or not, there's surely only admiration for his continued commitment.'"

see the link for the full story

DM top comments: In answer, I disagree with Rashfords causes. I work to feed my own children, not to feed some lazy work Dodgers children!

The parents of the hungry children are responsible for feeding them not Rashford not me and not with my taxes. The uk already spends far far too much on benefits for the lazy.

And yet you just did. Hopkins and robinson were used against Aristas idea that politics is only for politicians. Rashford doesn't need justifying; he's the one doing the right thing.

When footballers are out of touch they get criticised and when one goes out of their way to fight for a good cause they are called an annoying tit. Shouldn’t be surprised by the Tory base though.

Im sure the government know better than us as terrifying as that sounds, Rashford is not a hero to me, a hero is is someone who puts their life on the line for people or animals , not a footballer with pots of money, his intentions are good ,no denying that but hero no, not imo.

Kids have been starving for the last decade Kaz. The tories had to be shamed into feeding them earlier in the year. Are you not able to put yourself in someone else's shoes without thinking feeding kids is an opportunity for their parents to get booze out of it?

To be fair the PM has no obligation to keep in touch with Rashford, especially now the conversation has been taken up by almost everyone.

But Rashford should definitely be recognised for his initial role in it all.

Ive been in those shoes Slim, hence I learned to budget and cook, and feed my children quite easily, I am out of that situation now,but times were hard and I remember them, and I do not believe any child should or will starve ,there is so much help out there ,they are given the money , use it to feed your kids first, people need to take some responsibilty aswell.

quite right Kaz.

id imagine if children are "starving" its due to the feckless nature of their parents more than anything

spot on Kaz, definitely agree with you

quite selfish parents if they don't think about feeding their children first and place material things second

If it was easy, then you weren't in that position. Not being comfortable is completely different to being poor.

I've been piss poor and if it weren't for my parents at the time my family would have starved. There is not lots of help available. Try living on 70 pounds a week and keeping bills paid as well. Its impossible.

Some hard evidence on UK child poverty statistics.

Well there are benefits like Universal credits, tax credits gas and electric companies are pretty good with struggling customers and will let them pay by card etc, also very poor people will get full housing benefit, and full council tax exemptions, winter warm allowances, plus there is help with furnishing a house I found it hard but not impossible.we are pretty lucky to live here,in some countries you wouldnt get the same help.

The PM has just said on the news UC has gone up by £20 a week to cover this and councils have had extra .
