Arrow Doctor Who - Season 13

Series 13 has begun filming, and it will be 8 episodes long, due to COVID

Ehh, it's hard to get overly excited about it anymore with how mediocre the last two seasons have been, especially if the rumours about the only good companion (Graham) having gone are true...

But whatever, mediocre Dr Who is better than none

I’ve noticed the DS Article about it only names Mandip to be returning

Probably a good thing, having a whole TARDIS team to film during the pandemic would be much harder

She's a very likeable actress so on paper she's the best choice to stay if there has to be only one companion for Covid reasons, and I hope that only having the one companion to focus on means she's given some actual characterisation

Agreed, thats been the real problem with Chibnall's run, there is just too many characters. Hopefully with just the Doc and Yas we can get some characterisation for both of them

I think it’s been speculated for a whole now that Bradley and Tosin are set to bow out in the festive special.

Its hard to see where it fits in with the Strictky, Call The Midwife and Easyenders Trilogy from tea time unless they put it on at 4

Pretty sure it was Chibnall's request to move DW from Christmas to New Year?

It looks fine enough in the trailer but you know it'll be a heap of ****. Chibnall is killing this series. I can see it being axed in a series or two if they don't **** him off.

This makes no sense. Doctor Who aired for years alongside all three of those shows. There's only no space for it now because they chose to remove it.

Having said that, I don't see the issue with NYD. It's fine airing on that date.

I didn't actually hate the last two seasons in the end - I think they improved in general, although... I low-key hate the "the doctor isn't actually just a time lord and is some otherworldly god-like thing" plot line. I hope they retcon it and it turns out to be some sort of Master-related elaborate prank/scam.

Speaking of the master... I also still don't understand what happened there. What happened to Missy turning good(ish)? Is the most recent Master actually pre-missy? There's an in-universe explanation for that if it's the case I think... We know from "doctor meeting Doctor" that the younger versions don't remember events from these meetings, e.g. Smith would remember meeting Tennant but Tennant wouldn't remember meeting Smith SO (in theory), The Simmster wouldn't remember the events at the end of Capaldi's run, because his and Missy's timelines crossed, meaning he would forget all of it as soon as he left... So the new one could be post-Simm but pre-Missy and would know nothing about Missy or the newfound antihero status.

Still. Very poorly explained. I feel like they just wanted him to be a villain again and glossed over it, which is lazy af.

Oh also yes the TARDIS is overstuffed with 3 companions, it just didn't work. Two seems to be the upper limit. Doctor-Rose-Jack was fine as dynamic, as was Doctor-Amy-Rory. And even Capaldoctor-Bill-Nardole was OK although its not my fav era.

Although in each case a duo is established BEFORE adding the third wheel.

You can also have an occasional extra member in the mix. River Song, Missy etc... But a permanent ensemble cast is too much for a show that at the end of the day revolves around one central character. Takes too much of the focus.

Tbf, apart from the twist that she is the origin of the Time Lord's ability to regenerate it's no different to how both RTD and Moffat treated the character, like he/she was the most important being in the entire universe.

Yeah, I agree with this. Especially when you end up with 3 paper thin companions with not a single fleshed out character arc for any of them.
