Why? He probably has immunity at the moment.

Maybe they think he hasn't immunity.
I guess better safe than sorry.

Would be nice if he applied the same concern to those most vulnerable and elderly.

There isn’t proven immunity if you’ve had the virus once

He just hasn't been as robust since his (first?) bout with Covid, it might be "projection" but it really seems to have given him long term effects... Whatever he's like as a PM I hope he doesn't catch it again, it could finish him off...

Though the pessimist in me wonders if he's hiding from Sir Keir, who whups him weekly at PMQs

Yep that was my first thought too. He's scared to be face with the jeers over his pet fascists departure.
Hang on they were both in meetings together on friday? So Cummings will be isolating too or is he visiting family like last time?

Isn't Demonic Cummings working from home until December or something? I know he's not based in Number Ten anymore...

Exactly plus some bacteriologists have suggested you may only have immunity for as little as ten weeks .. he had it ages ago ..

The rules are that if you have had contact with someone who tests positive, you isolate for 14 days. That's it. That simple.

There is no "... unless you've had it before so you're probably immune or think you probably won't have caught it" clause.

Is it unlikely that he'll have caught it? Probably. SHOULD it be that previously infected people don't have to isolate again? Maybe so. But currently, that's not the rule. So I'm not sure why anyone is confused about why he has to isolate.

This is incorrect Zizu, there have been a number of examples of SOME people showing REDUCED immunity after that period of time. Reduced immunity does not mean no immunity, and it also doesn't mean that there aren't individual differences. Some people will still have high antibody levels at 12 weeks, some people will have levels reduced far enough that it makes them vulnerable to reinfection. Also, as with everything Covid-related it seems, it varies by age group.

Fair enough ...

That said .. it seems that nobody is 100% certain on anything as regards the Covid virus and immunity...

That's true, it just hasn't been around long enough to really know a lot of these things for sure.

I'd say it's a fairly safe bet that more is known about it than has been known about any other virus in under a year of study, though.

So that's me your sniping at... yes I thought he was immune, I was hoping everyone that had had it was immune . What's wrong with that? ...with 99% of viruses that's the case so it's not that way out to think this would be the case.

Personally I think YOU are wrong with your reduced immunity theory. Its been shown there are 2 strains, that you've had one become immune to that then caught the other.
The 2nd infection presenting as asymptomatic.

He is the first recovered person I've heard of that has had to isolate again.
As you say the virus has only been around for a year so mosthat people are confused as to its virulence.... Except you armchair experts obviously.

while the rule is to isolate if you come in contact with someone who tests positive, you need to do it. If Boris didnt do it, people would say if the PM doesnt do it, why should we

Cummings will only have to isolate if he met with the MP who has tested positive or if Boris tests positive again.

My son is in his third period if isolation after having positive class mates so is isolating for 14 days but I don't have to even though we live in the same house because I have not been in contact with the child who tested positive. If my son subsequently tests positive then I will then have to isolate.
