...I think that PSHE in general is not something that transfers well to ‘remote learning’ ...it’s very much personal participation from staff and often from parents, themselves...

I think PSHE is missing an I, if they think this is acceptable.

are people trying to suggest that the average 13 year old hasn't done those types of searches on their own already? If they are, they are kidding themselves

its one thing to do it yourself, but to be instructed to do as part of a homework project is entirely different

...this was back in May...the Academy/school has apologised to parents and said that similar homework’s won’t be given again...it should have been anticipated that internet researching would have been applied by some students, so completely inappropriate, which has been acknowledged...

The school apologised if it led pupils to search for inappropriate material, they certainly did not apologise for the inappropriate homework.

...I’m not really sure what else to say, this was back in May/6 months ago...and the School has addressed it, it looks as though they did so immediately...

...the Head has said..."I have asked that no future PSHE materials contain any potentially sensitive content and will ensure all materials are fully age-appropriate."

...well it does actually matter, Nicky...safety filters are applied at schools, so that inappropriate sites are blocked ...it would be completely wrong to give classwork related homework that required accessing sites beyond those safety blocks...as the school has acknowledged and something that won’t happen again...

...internet safety and any sites guided to by the school, absolutely still applies with any homework given, Nicky...homework is an extension of all classwork topics...I’m pretty sure that the student/school agreement will extend to that, or most certainly should...

yes fair enough

i guess they could go on wikipedia, since it is basically quite nice for educational purposes, and you can basically search anything from History, Biology, Geography, Maths, Language on there too

I found homework was a good way that I as a parent could understand what my children were studying, its beneficial to the mums and dads as it is to the kids.

It also shows you that you have forgotten lots and you are pretty thick

I discovered over lockdown when schools were off that my memory apparently extends to later high school, but not primary school.

I can do quadratic equations no bother, but when my daughter presented me a page of "show your working" long division? I had to ****ing google how to do it!

Wait wait wait, I've actually just seen the list of terms and...

"all the answers to the questions posed are contained in the teacher-produced materials we shared"

This was the defense? ...excuse me? The "teacher produced materials", for 13 year old children, included definitions of transgender porn, soft porn, hardcore porn and revenge porn?

For 13 year olds? **** off. That would be a hard no and pushing for action to be taken against whoever thought it was a good idea at all - never mind the risk of internet searches - the material is not age appropriate in any form. 15+, maybe.

That's not the point is it? Schools are meant to be protecting children from accessing such material not actively encouraging them to research it via potentially dangerous sites.
Why is there not a learning tool with appropriate Web pages of information if they are to form some kind of definition on these topics?
Can a 13yr old define these topics...hell I don't know if I could define many of those without coming away traumatised. Shockingly bad lesson plan.
