They keep warning us...
https://news.sky.com/story/right-win...orism-12135071 Right-wing extremism is UK's fastest growing threat, says top counter-terror cop Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu says "more young people are being drawn towards terrorist activity". A surge in online extremism, at a time of COVID-related isolation, has created a "perfect storm" for radicalisation, according to the UK's top counter terrorism police officer. Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner Neil Basu has said growing numbers of young people in particular have been sucked in by the increase in hateful ideology online and set on a path towards violent extremism. AC Basu revealed that 17 children, some as young as 14, were arrested on terrorism charges in the past 18 months. Over the same time period, more than 1,500 children under the age of 15 were referred to the Prevent counter radicalisation programme. "We are seeing more young people being drawn towards terrorist activity," he said. "That is a relatively new and worrying trend in the UK, because just a few years ago we were not seeing anyone that young amongst our casework."

The face of terrorism is changing, the US has been struggling with right wing terrorism as it's main threat for years now and it's only a matter of time before it becomes more prominent here but people won't acknowledge the extreme elements of the right wing because of tribalism, they only recognise terrorists as people with brown skin and if you mention anything about right wing extremism, they'll screech back at you 'BUT WHAT ABOUT THE EXTREME LEFT?!' like it's an actual valid response.
The Right Wing as a whole must denounce these threats, and not downplay them out of misplaced loyalty to anyone of a right wing persuasion. |

It's a bit of a red herring to be honest, the problem that leads to terrorism is the same whether it's ISIS or Neo-Nazis and that's what needs to be addressed.
The problem isn't specifically "Islam", the problem isn't specifically "far right ideologies", the problem is tribalistic extremism and dogmatic groupthink ideologies and it is a problem IN ANY FORM, wherever it rears its ugly head, and if we carry on ignoring that fact there will always be a "new biggest threat". The specifics of each ideology are barely relevant at all. |

Nobody has suggested the ways and means of radicalisation are different, or that more crimes are committed by one specific terrorist group... The the premise of the thread as I see it is to highlight the steep rise in the number under investigation and the age group involved.
The specifics are entirely relevant as there is actively a far right vox pop uprising spurred by the media occurring at the moment, to fuel the fire of extremism in a way that there is not for any other faction.

...the article seems to be specifically more about younger people...
‘A surge in online extremism, at a time of COVID-related isolation, has created a "perfect storm" for radicalisation, according to the UK's top counter terrorism police officer.’... ‘AC Basu revealed that 17 children, some as young as 14, were arrested on terrorism charges in the past 18 months.’........so that is obviously of huge concern...?.... ...it’s been acknowledged in the article also that Islamic extremism is still a huge focus for the majority of Counter Terrorism work...but that of 12 under 18’s who were arrested for terrorism last year...?..10 of those were linked to extreme right ideology... ‘authorities fear that the increase in online radicalisation during lockdown means many more people are willing to consider using acts of violence.’ ...Surely all terrorism is the greater threat just by its very existence and any and all growing radicalisation is always concerning for all of us...and this year has been particularly isolating for everyone so it would make sense that there would be concerns about how that could hugely contribute to potentially disenfranchised minds....I imagine that this is something that has been monitored closely since the beginning of COVID restrictions and lockdown and the general surge of online time being spent... We need to guard against any rise in terrorism and extremism, whatever it's origin. New threats are appearing all the time and always will.

Its okay complaining about right wing terrorism when you live in backwater the hills have eyes town.
But try living in Zone 1, London, then you would see a the real threat more clearly, and yes its not the men in dresses. Here we could die any time any second and we understand what the threat is.

...of course...any ‘surge’ in specific areas will always be of great concern as well because with any terrorism, we ‘can never take our eyes off...’...and allow to gather, you know...there is obviously a huge concern with 10 out of 12 under 18yr olds arrested last year, being linked to far right...these are our young people, our children...and those statistics were not apparent at the beginning or Prevent and monitoring of radicalisation, so obviously a huge worry ...
