Default What's the worst thing anyone has ever done to you?

and did you forgive them?

Mine is my now estranged brother and his wife who kept hold of my mums ashes after her cremation and scattered them without telling me so I wasn't even there. Also I left a handbag at their house and it had my mums wedding and engagement rings in it which she had left to me in the will and my sister in law kept them and denied they'd been in the bag. I will never forgive them.

...I think that times of grief are some of the most difficult times to find forgiveness, Kate...because so many emotions become entangled and entwined up together and hard to separate in how deeply they’re felt...I’m so very sorry for your experiences and how much emotional pain they hold for you......

to forgive is to gain control of the incident

From the New Testament

Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?”

Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.

Why seven? According to Jewish traditions, you should forgive a person who has sinned against you three times, so Peter thinks he's being pretty generous. Jesus responds by saying you should forgive someone seventy-seven times, a hyperbole implying there's no limit to forgiveness.

A friend who I thought was a best friend slept with my boyfriend, it was years ago ,I kinda forgave her but have never been the same with her since, I also had one who stole my pin number and emptied my bank, needless to say she is no longer a friend.

That's awful Kate.
I also think your reaction to that understandable and right.

Blimey that's 2 pretty horrid things too.

I'm not surprised she isn't a friend anymore.
Rightly so too.

I haven't had any one that mattered do any real bad to me, well yet.
Not like Kate's and Kazanne's experiences anyhow.

However one thing I detest is blatant serious lies deliberately told to me.
Or attacks on my personal integrity.

I've had that from those I've called friends but they were out my life sharpish once I found out.

Sometimes as a song title indicates from Diana Ross.
'' Sorry doesn't always make it right''.

That's awful Kate....I had similar issues with my brother and sister in law. She did everything she could to come between me and my brother and eventually she did...we have barely spoken for 10 years.
It broke my heart...but she's not with us anymore so I'm hoping in time we can get back on track.

OMG....respect to you for forgiving her. I don't think I could have.

It must be tough when these things happen with friends...especially when you have a friendship group.

When I was 10 a 30-something year old neighbour knocked the **** out of me for drawing on his truck. I'm not talking just a slap - I had to go in for a face/head x-ray ... he gave me a few kicks and then when I said I was going to tell my parents he spun round with a full-on haymaker and knocked my head into a wall. I think (and maybe this is pure snobbery) it was all the more shocking because we lived in a "nice" area. I remember my mum having to physically restrain my dad from going after him (he would definitely have lost his career if he had) and to call the police instead. IIRC all he got for it was a slap on the wrist, 6-month probation or something like that. I remember being furious about it for years. Moved away a year later (same town, different area) but it was a lingering grudge. Me and a friend (who still lived there) actually put a huge scratch along his car in the dead of night about 2 years later ... though that was unsatisfying as he never knew who did it. I also held a grudge against his wife and sons for years - who were also arseholes to be fair - but some time in my late teens piecing together memories of them as kids I realised he was almost certainly smacking them about regularly as well so I just feel pretty bad for them.

It's an odd one really because as a kid I obviously thought he was terrifying, but I was at a house party on that street several years later (when I was about 22) and he saw me across the street, by that time like 8" taller than him and twice his size, and he had this wide-eyed shocked look and I just thought... what a sad, sad, angry little man . Zero desire for "revenge" or anything like that. Though I COULD have knocked him up and down the street wye I tells ya .
