Just regarding "Vanya" in The Umbrella Academy, that name is unisex anyway and the character is very gender neutral (eventhough I know she's supposed to be female)

Educate yourself before spouting sh*te like this. Try reading her words and not someone else's opinion of her.

People can just give love, support and go about their day. It's not that hard. But obviously people had A LOT to say about Eliott, as usual. We love you Eliott

Totally ruining the thread by dragging JK in. Most people in here will be supportive and show the love to Elliot during his transition but bringing up a divisive topic kind of demeans it, especially when JK hasn't commented on this news.

How times have changed...I would have gotten a clout round the lug hole from my dad for suggesting such a thing.

Oh wow a lot of feelings out there regarding my comment.
Alright, so to be clear: no JK Rowling didn't make any comment about Elliott (that we know of). I wrote that comment in a silly way because well, a lot of people have had strong negative opinions about Elliott coming out and because JK Rowling is known for some opinions she has about transgender people. Also, to people who are not trans and don't think the comments were hurtful: Congratulations, I guess? Good for you? She received a lot of backlash from Trans (and non-trans) people, so 1. that's for a reason and 2. only them know what to feel. I'm just saying I support what these (and obviously not all) people feel, and can see why it could be potentially hurtful to them. I mean, who am I to say I don't agree with what trans people feel. I guess they do not know better. (since it's recurring for people to tell other people how they should feel) So yeah, silly me. I'm back to cooking. At least people on TIBB are tolerant and welcoming when it comes to that. Good night guys ! PS: no, I'm not a lesbian, bisexual, gay, and transexual all at once. Though that would be a fun experience to try for one day But you got the point. Being bi is enough for me!

is there not a hint of irony that there are - so far - 5 people attacking Remy in here for a daft aside comment when the narrative is supposed to be that WokeTwitter are the ones forcing things down our throats?
chill out, everyone

My point was purely to query the reasoning behind a JK Rowling reference in a thread that should, quite rightly, have been quite celebratory and recognising the transition he has begun. I merely queried why bring up Rowling in this thread, knowing it would spark debate when there is already a thread dedicated to that particular subject. It detracts from what this thread should be about imo. Couldn't have been further than an attack if I tried.

And it's also turning the topic into something it never was. JK's essay wasn't attacking transpeople, it was raising concerns about things that affect young people and women, both trans and cis. And that is a topic relevant to anyone. |
