Comparing weekly mortality in 24 European countries, the findings in this paper suggest
that more severe lockdown policies have not been associated with lower mortality. In other words, the lockdowns have not worked as intended. Further tests also show that early interventions offered no additional benefits or effectiveness and even indicate that the lockdowns of the spring of 2020 were associated with significantly more deaths in the particular age group between 60 and 79 years. The main problem at hand is therefore that the evidence presented here suggests that lockdowns have not significantly affected the development of mortality in Europe. They have nevertheless wreaked economic havoc in most societies and may lead to a substantial number of additional deaths for other reasons. A British government report from April for example assessed that a limited lockdown could cause 185,000 excess deaths over the next years, while UNICEF warns of an increase in child marriages, owing to the economic effects of Western lockdowns in developing countries (DHSC 2020; Philipose and Aika 2021). Evaluated as a whole, at a first glance, the lockdown policies of the Spring of 2020 therefore appear to be substantial long-run government failures. https://academic.oup.com/cesifo/adva...fab003/6199605 |

Heathrow says airport queues are becoming 'untenable' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56743571 [Heathrow has said that long queues caused by extensive Covid checks at the airport are becoming "untenable". Chris Garton, chief solutions officer at Heathrow, told MPs on the transport committee that some travellers faced waits of up to six hours. On more than one occasion police had had to intervene because queuing was "not something passengers want to do", he added.] |

Just on my way back home.
Some restaurants have heated outdoor areas. Which is a great idea, because it's quite cold in the evening. It's nice to see central London coming back to life.

Now oddly enough .. My daughter has been on a first aid course today and the the main guy ‘running’ the course ended the day with a bit of a thank you / well done speech during which he talked about the implications of Covid .. He said that it’s commonly accepted within the medical profession that it’s almost certain that there will be another lockdown in October .. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

I just don't think there's anything to be done. These massive shanty towns are hot, packed together, and the police can't even go in to sort out the widespread daily violence/drugs/gun crime ... how on earth would they enforce something like a lockdown? It's just never going to happen, and rolling out a vaccine would be almost as difficult.

Netherlands: first day of test pub went really well, though two employees couldn't attend due to testing positive and they went in self isolation, one person who signed up couldn't come either also testing positive and same went in self isolation
these tests will run for 3 more days allowed for the pub under these guidelines to stay open for test subjects only pub in utrecht, whom immediately said yes when having been asked for this specific test trial, since it benefits their financial status as well all test events are good economy either |

a Non-EU country like Serbia is doing decent in terms of vaccinations, so well they also had said EU citizens can come over to also get the jab there (dozen of dutch people made the trip already, also few from Germany) they are of course first vaccinating their own, but they have more than enough for time being anyway |
