nah, WHO and its Covax need to step it up now with getting vaccine supplies to most poorer countries/regions

the poorer countries are their responsibility since they organized that Covax fund to begin with

i don't think they'll ''never'' get vaccinated, i am maybe more optimistic minded regarding this

Oddly enough, Chile (South America) actually has one of the highest vaccination rate thus far: 65 doses per 100 people. UAE is of course the front runner at 95/100.

UK is up there too at 60/100

A senior member of Japan’s ruling party has said cancelling the Olympics remains a possibility if the coronavirus situation in Japan becomes too severe.

Toshiro Nikai is a very powerful politician in Japan’s ruling party, so his words carry weight.

In the TV interview he said the Olympics should be cancelled "without hesitation" if the virus situation in Japan becomes too severe.

“If the infections spreads because of the Olympics then I don’t see what the Olympics is for,” he said.

Nikai’s comments have been dismissed by other ruling party officials who told Japanese media the games will not be cancelled.

The governor of Tokyo said she thought Nikai had only meant that the virus must be contained by all means.

But the virus is not being contained. On Wednesday, Japan recorded nearly 5,500 new cases.

The so-called “Kent variant”, originally identified in England, is now the dominant strain in western Japan, and it is spreading fast in the greater Tokyo area.

ok ok, not silenced, but you don't need to cancel stuff anymore

Olympics can go through, there is already no audience so and some countries (mine for example) are vaccinating the athletes before the event as well

5,500 is almost similar as my nation daily yesterday tbh, that is not too high for Japan either

if Nikai wants to contribute anything then he should use his power to come up with a health safety protocol for the event, get a good testing pavillion set up, good PPE handgel, enough face masks, gloves

last year was horrible with everything cancelled, we should not do that another year

On ITV1HD News 1:30PM
a Lady who rents Cottages for Holidays in England,
has been offered Double the Amount
if she changed the booking to them.

She is not doing that
and said she was shocked

Each Cottage has Lounge Real Fire.

Netherlands todays numbers

8.789 new cases (3.317 more than yesterday however yesterday seemed to be a malfunction at RIVM so some of this is also from yesterday)

789 in total ICU patients (increase of 5 compared to yesterday 784)

14 new deaths (14 less than yesterday)

Thumbs up

SIR – I agree with Michael Staples’s letter (April 15), boggling at the “sheer heartlessness and scientific inanity of the present government rules”, which will see the Queen having to sit alone, in a mask, at the funeral of her husband. Do others share my despondency?

I’m tired of masks, tired of social distancing and I’ve lost faith in Boris Johnson’s élan to lead us dynamically out of this situation – which only suits those who love regulation and bossing people around.

We’ve done our bit and protected the NHS. Now we need to resume the normal behaviour of a free and loving society.
