I feel for people who have family abroad who they haven't seen and at the moment have no prospect of seeing.

I wasn't going to go abroad this year even if they opened it right up so it doesn't affect me and I don't feel a whole lot of sympathy for people who just want to holiday but for people who have legitimate reasons for travelling, it is frustrating.

What's worse though is that yes it will improve our tourism economy with people staycationing but it the prices of hotels and holidays parks have now skyrocketed so it is pricing a lot of people out of a holiday completely.

Only slightly reduced antibodies or something but that’s only after ONE Pfizer jab .. after two you’re good to go ..

As I understand things

###

The new lab data from the Francis Crick Institute and the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) UCLH Biomedical Research Centre also supports current plans to reduce the dose gap between vaccines.

People who have one Pfizer dose are less likely to develop antibody levels against the Indian - Delta - variant that are as high as those seen for the Kent - Alpha - variant.

thats why the decision was taken to shorten the jab gap and speed up the process generally. So far, from a vaccination standpoint, the government has had the right strategy. We just have to wait and see how things pan out

I miss my family, but I would rather wait until it's safer to travel.
I can always go on holiday here in the UK.
There are so many places worth visiting.

Prof Sir Munir Pirmohamed, who chairs the Commission on Human Medicines which is a committee of the MHRA, said more than 2,000 children between the ages of 12 and 15 were studied in randomised, placebo-controlled clinical trials.

There were no cases of Covid-19 from seven days after the second dose in the vaccinated group, compared with 16 cases in the placebo group, he said.

"In addition, data on neutralising antibodies showed the vaccine working at the same level as seen in adults aged 16-25 years. These are extremely positive results.”

Typical in Nepal
they claim there is no new Variant.

How the hell would they know
it has jumped back into India and Japan.

It’s simple scaremongering really .. the headline is initially disturbing but when you dig deeper it’s only a slight, possible issue and even that only applies to those who’ve only had the one dose so far

i know you are a natural worrier, but that is being fed by the media. We will have new variants all the time, thats just how virus's are, they mutate. We may at some point in the future get a nasty variant, but the same is true of flu or any other virus. The point now is that we have the mechanisms to adapt the vaccine, we have a great test environment here in the uk, and we have a vaccine rollout mechanism now tried and tested. We are in a much better position than we were in january

Netherlands: cafes, events face staff shortages

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/0...ockdown-eases/

Quote:
Café and restaurant owners, and event organisers are among the employers who are worried about the shortage of staff, now that the Netherlands is beginning to get back to normal.

During the lockdown, many people found work elsewhere and companies are struggling to fill vacancies, website Nu.nl reported.

Berend Schans of festival and concert organiser association VNPF said he fears that thousands of vacancies will be unfilled once mass events can be organised again from the end of the month.

And bars and restaurants, where staff are often on freelance or zero hour contracts, are also facing shortages because people have found work in other sectors.

‘Employers are concerned about staffing levels when the sector fully opens again,’ hospitality industry body KHN told Nu.nl. ‘37% say they don’t expect it will be easy to find staff and 21% think there will be a shortage of personnel.’

State jobs agency UWV has also noted a sharp rise in the number of listed vacancies for café and restaurant staff.

‘There is a lot of competition,’ UWV labour market specialist Rob Witjes said. ‘Employers who kept in touch with their staff during the lockdown will find it easier to tempt them back, but those that didn’t will find it hard.’

Vacancies

According to the Financieele Dagblad, some 500,000 people worked in the hospitality industry before the start of the crisis and a further 100,000 in the events sector.

A spokesman for small firms organisation MKB-Nederland told the paper that there are currently 250,000 job vacancies in the Netherlands, a rise of 50,000 on the same period last year.

The cleaning sector has also been hit by a shortage of workers, now that holiday parks, schools and offices are opening again. ‘And competition with cafes and the retail sector is making it even harder to find people,’ John van Hoof, chairman of cleaning company CSU, said.

Unemployment

The Dutch official unemployment rate fell to 3.6% in the first three months of 2021, due to a combination of more people finding work, and an increase in people stopping looking for work altogether, the national statistics agency CBS said last month.

The official rate had reached a pandemic high of 4.6% last August, but has been falling steadily since then.

The CBS figures also show that of the nine million people with a job, 1.7 million had a flexible or short-term contract. That is down 122,000 on the same period in 2020.

Coronavirus cases in the community rocketed by 76.5% in just one week, official data for England indicates.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) estimates that 85,600 people in the country had COVID-19 in the week to May 29 - equating to around one in 640 people in private households.
This is the highest level since the week to 16 April and is up from 48,500 people - one in 1,120 people - in the week ending 22 May.
Live COVID updates from the UK and around the world
The percentage of people testing positive for COVID-19 is estimated to have increased in the North West, the East Midlands and South West.

The key part of the story is omitted from the opening headline grabber ..

###

Having TWO doses of a Covid vaccine slashes the risk of being admitted to hospital with the Indian variant by 93 per cent to less than one in a thousand but unvaccinated people are at a higher risk than in earlier waves.

The proof that the jab works will put ministers in a dilemma ahead of June 21's 'Freedom Day' as experts warn TWO doses are essential for protection against the strain and a single jab could be up to 20 per cent less effective against it.

[UK's daily Covid infections rise AGAIN to 6,238 - 1,000 more
than yesterday: Fears for Freedom Day after
government sources admitted they would
be 'concerned' if cases went over 5,000
It marked the first time daily infections have
risen above 6,000 since March 26 when
there were more curbs
And the second day in a row that cases
have been above 5,000,
Department of Health figures showed
England's June 21 Freedom Day now
appears to be hanging in the balance amid
spread of Indian variant
Office for National Statistics report today
showed weekly Covid cases spiked 75 per cent
last week to 86,000
Daily Covid infections have been rising steadily
since late May when there were 2,500 a day on average]
