The number of people dying with flu and pneumonia on their death certificate in England and Wales is now 10 times higher than those with Covid, figures show.

To be honest though, anything under 50 isn’t beyond the scope of what you would expect with a new respiratory virus on the scene permanently - would put respiratory deaths at about 1/3 higher than they were pre-Covid.
Yes, I agree. Hopefully they won't go higher than that.

Doesn’t sound right tbh, unless this is about last weeks figures. Normal deaths per day for flu/pneumonia in the UK would be about 90 a day, so for this to be true Covid deaths would have to be under 10/day.

Frankly if they’re saying that pneumonia deaths are at 200+ a day… they’re covering up Covid deaths in the flu/pneumonia figures

am happy regarding my nation, as for the numbers

as for the Delta variant, i don't panic about that one, no one should tbh

tbh the majority of those are also in areas where there are still the so called Red Zones whom are decreasing by the day those zones into yellow and then grey

as for holidaygoers, ur crazy and very selfish if you go on holiday right now in another country

Thats how Beth Rugby reported it...I would imagine in comparison to deaths from other causes they are flat!

Flat is flat as in static… no change… not increasing. It’s not about comparison to anything else. The numbers are LOW in comparison to other causes, but they are increasing, so there’s no way to describe them as “flat”.

they will have some threshold and if the increase is under that then it will be considered flat. I just think that by the time september hits, 6 weeks after restrictions have ended, there is going to be quite a raised flat

Barnie Choudhury, from Eastern Eye, asks what is specifically
being done to increase vaccine uptake in communities
like the Pakistani and Bangladeshi sections of the country.

Mr Zahawi gives a number of examples of schemes to
get groups which are not taking up vaccine offers
to increase their uptake rate.
He talks about pop up events in Brent mosque,
an event for the Haredi Hasidic Jews in
Hackney with Diane Abbott.
The minister mentions how important it is to
"empower" community figures that
people trust - like members who are paramedics.

Dr Nikki Kanani highlights the importance
of community media organisations in helping
the vaccine rollout continue.]

The Queen referred to Health Secretary Matt Hancock as "poor man" at a meeting with Boris Johnson.

"I've just been talking to your secretary of state for health, poor man. He came for Privy Council," she told the prime minister.

"He's full of...", she added. "Full of beans?", offered Mr Johnson.

those are weighted figures, because we know that the vaccine has stopped thousands of people being hospitalised, and that is the important figure, not the ones that are outliers and are being highlighted above

My point was that over 30% of the latest Delta deaths were fully vaccinated for over 2 weeks ...

The ‘word’ not too long ago was that being fully vaccinated equated to not getting seriously poorly and certainly not dying

Can't see countries like Spain and Portugal taking Angela's suggestion on board, Germany is not reliant on tourism for the bulk of it's economy

Angela had no problem turning up for the G7

I'd agree if it wasn't already out in the world, but... it is. It's already active in every country so quarantining isn't going to make any difference. I mean, it didn't even originate in the UK.

That said I think international travel in general is opening up far too early; it should be the LAST thing to return, between countries that have already got to the point of lifting all restrictions (which should be 3 weeks after the point of full vaccine roll-out completion, not some arbitrary date).
