Its always been a questionable way to record covid deaths. I don't actually understand the logic behind it at all tbh. Its also one of the reasons comparing country to country doesnt work well, as other countries don't count theirs in such a weird way. And some countries don't include carehomes for their deaths.

Well I know one guy who was clapped out of hospital last april after 6 weeks on a ventilator..so that's 42 days.

He could have easily died on the 38th day.

Yes, but using the way its counted according to the government thing -

If he died on day 38 of his covid related hospital stay, he would have been recorded as a covid death, as it would be mentioned on the death certificate.

If he died on day 20 of covid related issues, he would have been down as a covid death.

If he left hospital on day 7, clear, then was knocked over. He would be in the covid figures.

If he never entered hospital, but had an official positive test..and then was knocked over, covid death.

HOWEVER

If he never had a test, but succumbed at home, and did not have an autopsy which revelaed covid induced penumonia or something..he would NOT count in the officials.

-

I guess the second lot cancel the first lot out somewhat. As a lot of, especially elderly people might have died at home and noone bothered with autopsies or anything.

Its still a very weird way to record data though. As I said, was under the impression it was the blunt 28 day (now 60) thing was just for the 'fast numbers', but then adjusted longer term to be more accurate. But that seems to be not the case.

Edit. What a bloody fighter that guy is...really. I am consistently amazed at some of the survivial stories that come out. A local one was a 100 year old guy who was in hospital with it but left after a week or so fit as a fiddle.

also almost 200 cases of UK variant in the US now

States with most cases of the new variant:

California: 72
Florida: 50
New York: 22

The variant -- which is known as B.1.1.7 and appears to spread more easily -- has also been found in at least 60 countries worldwide, according to the World Health Organization.

A relative of mine said, maybe they'll be relaxing things sooner as the infection rate is falling.

Honestly I near despair.
Told them so too.
Of course infection rates are lower because that's what the lockdown is for.
To stop others getting infected.

Without the lockdown, the infection rates would likely still be rising and more out of control.

The stupidity of people astounds me.

Some see this virus as a hoax or not something to be really bothered about.

Even on here, I'm giving up commenting much because of the cheers, when instead of over 1000 deaths there's deaths in the hundreds, of other people's special loved ones, gone unnecessarily and for good.
There's nothing to cheer on as to deaths of loved ones.

Then oh the new infection figures are less..of course they are, thanks in the main to the lockdown.

I have no time for this PM or government on covid.
However look at their faces.
They know more than they are ever telling us.
Listen to the guarded fears and uncertainty around the new strains from them.
I actually think Matt Hancock expressed a very different tone in his last press conference, maybe he's now realised the new possible dangers.

Maybe stronger measures are still needed, as more develops not less.
Those, like my relative, thinking relaxing things is round the corner, make my blood boil intensely.

We're in a crisis in my view, being steered by incompetents, we're NOT told all we should have been or should be.
Then have to deal with the stupidity of what my own relative came out with.

I best really now shut up on this issue on here.
For goodness sake though, why can't it be seen the infections are falling as to RISING infections only because, in the main, we have this lockdown in place.

Honestly, I totally near despair on this issue.
Yes, I'll say it again, I've lost 4 special people from my life to it, I DON'T want to see risks in place of losing any more, no way!!

I’m trying to remain as positive as possible these days ... and on hearing that the risk of death to males on their 60’s ( me ) from the UK variant has gone up from 10 in a 1000 to 13 in a thousand I wasn’t too alarmed ........ BUT overnight I heard a caller on the radio suggesting that with us vaccinating the over 80’s then 70’s , 60’s and so on what would happen if things REALLY go pear shaped and even more dangerous new variants appear ??

They said in the worst case scenario maybe many hundreds of thousands or millions of UNDER 60’s could die leaving a population of mainly over 60’s ?!?!

Surely that could not happen.. could it ??

https://www.dutchnews.nl/news/2021/0...m-on-saturday/

Netherlands 9 PM curfew starts tonight

only exceptions are ''work, walking with dogs, medical & fire emergencies''

so basically the curfew is to stop illegal partying late in evenings and at night

all other lockdown regulations during the day remain as they are, with the face mask compulsory still too (also shows to be working since daily new case numbers are going down)

only countries in europe where daily new cases are going up, are Spain & Portugal also my source for knowing this CNN, they showed us a graphic, most are in green, except those two

as for what happened last week, EU have called for new ''dark red zone'' even stricter travel bans, to highlight the really worst covid hotspots this one i heard in our rtlnews

and the WHO have said other face masks from different fabric still protect you as well, of course the ones also used by hospital staff, care workers FFP2 are the best, but a mask is still better than wearing nothing (heard this morning on CNN)

https://www.thelocal.de/20210122/ger...navirus-strain

Germany has recorded first case of brazilian covid strain

Germany now above 50k deaths, death numbers are still high yes, but daily new cases are going down more thanks to regional travel bans, very strict lockdown procedures, and almost everyone (apart from a very small group of anti-maskers) listening to regulations

Only 200? Thats quite impressive tbh really. Given how easy it spreads, and how it was here in September. They have themselves closed for travel to us don't they? Though, are presumably allowing travel from other places that did NOT close their doors to us til late December? By which time, the genie was well out of the bottle in reality..
