I'm not saying that it's a good thing that people are "trapped" in jobs where they feel unsafe... However, it is a reality. There are no jobs to leave for, even fewer that are paid half as much, fewer still that don't carry similar levels of risk. Realistically, few could do it even if they wanted to, and still make ends meet.

They will probably go on long term stress leave then - I’m seeing maybe two or three staff crying each week - usually away from prying eyes whilst they were just chatting but I consoled one female teacher who was crying in the corridor outside her classroom -it just came from nowhere ....

I’m pretty sure that many teaching assistants will simply quit over the coming weeks / months.

The numbers are coming down, but we still have a long way to go.

What we all need to know
are the 3 Covid Variants
100% stopped by the 2 vaccines?
As they are not 100% sure.

Morderna Vaccine in the UK, not until spring
17million.

I think better to wait until the virus is under control before reopening.

Teachers were not at significantly higher risk of death from Covid-19 than the general population, Office for National Statistics figures suggest.

Restaurant staff, people working in factories and care workers had among the highest death rates, followed by taxi drivers and security guards.

Nurses were more than twice as likely as their peers to die of coronavirus.

Secondary school teachers may have been at slightly, but not measurably, higher risk than the average.

they can get a good idea from lab tests if the vaccine is still effective, but it's not a simple switch, the effectiveness of the vaccine may go up or down by an amount, but that can only be determined by testing thousands of people who have been vaccinated who have been exposed to the new variants, and that is not an easy thing to determine. If people vaccinated start being hospitalised with covid that would be a good indication, but again, that will take months to determine. So, patience Arista, you are not going to get a definitive answer any time soon

I do have sympathy for them but sadly this is very common across the board right now... my workplace is all tucked up safe working from home and has been for 9+ months now, but tears on zoom is still a regular occurrence unfortunately.

With respect those stats are out of date and totally irrelevant in regards to secondary schools now .

The ‘situation’ has changed dramatically since mid December the last date in those stats .

We’ve had the festive period since then and we now have many new variants - all more contagious/ transmissible and dangerous .

We are cramming more pupils than normal into classes as staff are either sick or teaching online from home due to health conditions..

Also when a pupil tests positive ... schools now only send home the person sitting either side of them whereas before Christmas the whole class of pupils would have been sent home for 10 to 14 days and the room deep cleaned .

Zizu, if you are so worried and anxious, could you not get signed off work? I honestly worry that you will make yourself ill by worrying.

Teachers going from weekly testing up to twice a week now.
Daughter’s new school is great, not too many pupils in and excellent at keeping distances and sanitising.
The school she left at Christmas was terrible, so it varies from school to school.

The headmaster has said he’d approve me going on the sick for a while but I’ve said I will stay at work with everyone else .. as long as I can ..

My personality has changed dramatically , I’m losing weight , I can’t relax or enjoy anything and I haven’t played any music since last August ..

Such is life ..

True about schools being so different.. there are no rules just ‘guidelines’ which are open to interpretation.

Ours is a fabulous school with a tremendous headmaster and deputy head but they’re trying to accommodate as many pupils as they can .. kinda putting the pupils needs before the staff it feels .. which may or may not be the best way - depending on your position.

There is currently ZERO social distancing in classes or corridors . We only social distance in our staff rooms .

As regards these tests in schools.. they are those LFD tests and they’re only around 48% reliable according to recent stats .. they were used in Liverpool if you recall .

Guess 48% is better than nothing ..

You should possibly thi.k about time out Zizu. Your mental health sounds like it is suffering badly. You won't help anyone making yourself ill. You need to take care of you

Yes my wife feels the same way but I’m determined to try and ride the storm ... if I was at home doing nothing I’d only feel bad for leaving others having to work even harder .

I’m hopefully things can’t get any worse than they have been of late ..

Thank you for your concern.. it is heartwarming and much appreciated after another difficult day .
