A gym in Lancashire that has been fined three times for staying open despite Covid-19 rules has been closed, officials say.

Steve Todd, owner of Reps Gym in Preston, has been visited by police several times after breaching the government ban on gyms operating during lockdown.

Earlier this week, he said the premises "massively helps" users' mental health and that he was not charging customers.

However Preston City Council said his actions were "unsafe" and the authority's environmental health officers, accompanied by Lancashire Police, shut the premises overnight.

It followed a three-month closure order by a magistrates court, which was granted on Friday. The court also ordered the gym to pay more than £9,000 in costs.

So it offers good protection against severe illness or death but you may still get a mild infection ??

I’d be more than happy with that idea

...yeah, sorry I realise how misleading that headline is, Zizu...I was so absorbed in reading the actual article when I posted it that I hadn’t noticed...

Such a misleading headline, you have to drill down into every article now to get to the actual story

Some protection, even lesser protection is better than no protection (which is what a lot of French, German and Swedish citizens currently have)

we got more vaccines than just AZ

Germany, France prefer Pfizer, Moderna over AZ since we know it is more effective + it being very easy to adjust for the newer strains either

...it is what it is, Nicky...if you read through the article, you’ll see that any specific testing for that variant was done on younger, healthy people...so it would have no bearing to any over 65 people because those aren’t the ones being tested...?...that’s the point, really ...or one of the things to look at...’it hasn’t been proven on over 65yrs etc...’...?...to me would mainly indicate that testing in general isn’t being done on anyone who could be considered vulnerable in any way...I mean, if we tested older people for instance and then they were harmed in the testing...?...so testing by its nature would require what would be thought of and considered a healthy demographic...?...

...so anyway, so far as the vulnerable are concerned, the vaccines are as certain as is possible with their developers in the science world...but as the vulnerable aren’t great to choose to test on, there will never be absolute certainties...which there would never be anyway...atm there is great vulnerability without the vaccine and that can’t be sustained indefinitely...

...so anyway, what I’m trying to say is that the stance of ‘it’s not been proven so much on older people in testing’...is one I don’t understand, personally...because those older people are surely not wise to use for testing purposes, anyway...so why delay etc while allowing the virus’ mutation more and more...?...

Great that you have more vaccines.

I just hope the EU speed up their roll-out and get the people protected and stop worrying about AZ if they think its so useless.

on a more positive side of the snow, people are likely to remain at home

so maybe the snow has a positive effect on amount of new cases

...quite

Its really pissing me off the way the media spins everything as a doomsday scenario. Have been specifically trying to find positive in stuff, and because I am not all 'the end is nigh' I apparently think covid doesnt exist according to a friend. Cannot find the logic in that at all..
