A working tv could be considered essential for domestic abuse victims, single parent household families that have young children, and people furloughed and it able to work and have literally nothing to do to stay at home. Also a working TV could prevent people from mixing households, and going out, because it’ll keep them indoors.

I think parm deserves a bit of respect
I do work and the Internet is essential to my work plus I don't have the option to not work, we have to stay open regardless

yes we do still need those services, as long as those people who do the work wear their masks, socially distance (the people who need those services also need to pay attention to distancing ofc)

yes its kinda ''essential'' for people mentally, and most entertainment shows have been good for people's morale too

i get your point

How many would actually bother?
But you won't get as much attention on Facebook by actually doing something useful! If there's no video of you banging your pots and pans then how will you get likes?!

Sadly probably few do.

I do however and have done before any lockdowns and in between the lockdowns too.
As well as applauding.

Writing and e mails.

I don't think she means to stay in when the clap is happening. I think she means generally - to stop the spread and ease their workload. At least that's how I read it.

...the issue is people not doing it safely and crowding on the pavement, as happened last year on Westminster Bridge...(...I’m not sure if it was just one time or if it was every time...)...so long as people stay within their homes then I don’t see that it’s something that has to be overly politicised, to show appreciation...it’s nice for elderly in the community and those shielding to be able to ‘feel their community’ around them....

I'm personally happy to applaud however it is for each individual to decide that for themselves definitely.

Your second paragraph certainly the strong points needed across the board Josy.
I 100% agree.
