It's tech companies realising that their platforms have been used to sow the seeds of insurrection for years and now the sitting president of the United States is openly inciting violence on them, which is not a sustainable situation.

Basically, they know if they don't make internal efforts to stop their platforms being used in this way, they are likely to face heavy external regulation.

Also they are private companies so it is entirely their business who they choose to allow on the platform. They are not public services .
