OK, the greatest 100 England players of all time is next.

Here's "The Lion of Vienna" as a preview. Annie's dad will enjoy that one.

Le Tiss - Technically a genius, couldn't tackle, couldn't head, lazy as they come, speed of a tortoise. Probably not.

Gazza - Of course. Genius wise, he'll probably make the top 3, career wise, he'd probably feature lower down. He hindered his career big time in the 91 FA Cup final, he never came back the same player, he lost that yard of pace.

Same thing happened with Michael Owen. From the age of 17 - 22 he was the best player in the World for me. Then when he got a bad injury and lost his biggest weapon, his pace, he was finished.

Waddle - I've played against him, legend.

Grealish - Too early for him.

.... and Glen Hoddle ??

Best passer of a ball I’ve ever seen and he was 100% two footed

Again, probably amongst the elite of England players going by the standard of technically gifted, he probably didn't achieve the success in his career that someone of his talent should have, maybe attitude was his downfall?

Bryan Robson didn't have the technical ability of Hoddle, but Robson was head and shoulders above Hoddle as a player.

Post WW2. Which means I have to leave Dixie Dean out. But he would have obviously been number 1 if I went back further.

Fair enough

My earliest memories of amazing English footballers would probably be Jimmy Greaves

Different players different skill sets

I’d play both together but I’d only pay to see Hoddle

I'm opposite to that. I'd rather pay to see Robson.

He'd make far more bone crunching tackles, he'd score far more goals, he'd put his heart and soul into everything and give you 100 percent and he'd run his blood to water and cover every blade of grass on the pitch.

Oddly enough Hoddle scored more league goals than Robson and loads more assists z
.

Robson had other strengths, he missed hundreds of games though injuries as well

As did craig Gordon, yet alf thinks the fat goalie goram was more deserving.

2 broken legs, 2 broken arms, and still, at the rope old age of 39 is making a comeback at hearts after a double leg break 12 months ago and for scotland at the euros.

Goram was a fantastic goalkeeper. At his peak one of the best in the World.

Jim Leighton would rank above Craig Gordon too.

3 goals more and like you said, Robson spent so much time out with injuries. At international level Robson scored 26 goals to Hoddle's 8.

Robson was the best English footballer full stop of the 1980's and nobody could make an argument against that. It's impossible.

Even Paul Gascoigne would and has said that Robson was the best player he ever played with. Gazza gave Robson the nickname "dogsh!t" because he was everywhere. That comes from a time where dogsh!t was everywhere.

Show me his highlights in big Champions league games against the best players and teams in the World. Not his saves against Raith rovers and Clydebank.

Pity drink cost him years in the game and not tragic injuries at the most unfortunate times like Gordan and his limb breaks.

Only thing goram broke was good friendships with everyone who came across him.
